[For Anthony] Dinoplot aftermath

Aug 15, 2007 13:01

A long, hot shower, a bit of real food and drink and a change of clothes had revitalised Julian, making him feel human again. It also made him regret his behaviour toward Anthony, as they'd both been upset, tired and under a fair amount of stress. He knew Anthony well enough to know that his reaction was the man's way of showing his concern ( Read more... )

Anthony was anxious. After their earlier conversation he didn't know if Julian would really be returning, or even if it would be best if he did so. He was reading, as usual, but the little signs of his nervousness - restlessness, periodic tugs at his cuff or a stray lock of hair - were beginning to show.

But then he heard his name and looked up with a flicker of a soft frown. Slowly, he closed the book. "Julian."

A smile would have been nice, but Julian hadn't really expected one. He hesitated a moment longer and then limped toward the bed, giving Anthony a faint smile, at least. "You've no idea how much better I feel already," he sighed, lowering himself onto the edge of the bed and extending his right leg. The doctors had told him to keep it elevated and still as much as possible, but just not walking on it was relief enough, for the moment.

"Good." And then there was a smile, brief but gentle. "You look it." And he did - just seeming Julian clean and calm, if still hurt, eased his nerves.

He certainly had no intention of bringing up the earlier conversation if things didn't seem to warrant it. And as far as he was concerned, that was the case.

Julian had no intention of bringing it up, either. He looked over at Anthony and gave him a tired smile. "So do I get a proper welcome home, now that I've cleaned up a bit?" he asked softly, reaching for Anthony with a longing he didn't even try to hide.

Anthony's smile turned to a slight smirk. He let his fingers trail lightly through Julian's hair as he considered the question. "I think that could be in order, yes," he murmured. "Put the weekend behind us, perhaps?"

Julian's eyes closed at the gentle touch, a faint shiver running through him. "Yes," he practically whimpered, shifting closer, slipping his arm round Anthony's waist and leaning contentedly against his side. This. This was what had kept him going the past few days, the thought of being close to Anthony again.

And Anthony cupped his cheek and kissed Julian lingeringly. He could have asked if he was all right. He might have fretted over him, told him how he worried or that he had missed him, that he was glad to have him back and more or less in one piece. If he weren't Anthony Blunt, he might have done that, and a thousand other things.

But this was so much easier, and so much more preferable, than words.

Oh, and it was exactly what Julian wanted, more than a thousand words, a hundred thousand. With one kiss the frightening, exhausting weekend faded to an unimportant memory, for the most part at least. He melted against Anthony, tightening his arm around his waist, trying to pull himself closer. His breath hitched in his chest as he breathed Anthony's name against his lips, trembling faintly with the sheer relief of being home, safe and being kissed by the man he loved.

The feeling of Julian relaxing as he sunk into the kiss made Anthony relax further. He let his hand trail into Julian's hair again, pulling him closer. Fear and worry could be forgotten in taste and touch, forgiven and forgotten.

It felt wonderfully, being kissed by Anthony, but it wasn't enough. He wanted to be closer, to feel Anthony's body pressed against his. He whimpered into the kiss, shifting to climb into Anthony's lap--and let out a sharp cry of pain as he bumped his injured ankle against the bed in the process. He broke the kiss, biting his lip as what had become a dull ache flared into a hot throbbing pain once again. "God..."

"Julian-" Anthony pulled back slightly and frowned. He glanced down at the wrapped ankle and then back up at him, raising his brows. "And what did I say about being careful?" he chided, dry and just a little bit teasing. He kissed the poet briefly. "You should rest."

Julian sighed and carefully eased his body back onto the bed. "...You were distracting me," he pointed out with a small smile. He did need to rest, it was true; sleeping on the ground with multiple injuries did not lead to restful nights. But oh, it was just so wonderful to be in Anthony's arms again.

And what about you? he wondered, brushing his fingers lightly over Anthony's cheek. If their positions had been reversed, Julian wouldn't have slept a wink, and it was clear that Anthony had been worried, if you knew him well enough. But he knew Anthony wouldn't want to be fussed over, so instead he asked quietly, "Will you stay with me if I do?"

Anthony chuckled low. "I was trying, I must say." He ran a finger down Julian's cheek and then pulled back with a small shake of his head.

He leaned against the wall and dug out a cigarette, letting it rest between his fingers absently and then sending Julian a small smile. "I've no plans to go anywhere, Julian."

Julian glanced at the cigarette, then chuckled softly as he met Anthony's gaze. "Are you just going to watch me sleep, then?" he asked fondly, "Or are you going to join me?" Either way was fine with Julian, so long as Anthony was nearby, but the thought of drifting off to sleep in Anthony's embrace (and perhaps stealing a few more kisses) definitely held more appeal.

Anthony's expression was fondly amused. He lit his cigarette, gestured slightly with it and shrugged. "You go to sleep. I'll be there soon." He was certainly relieved to have Julian back, but he still needed a few free moments to calm his nerves.

"All right." Julian smiled and stretched out, carefully shifting his legs into a comfortable position. He closed his eyes with a soft sigh, not noticing (or perhaps just not caring) that the leg of the shorts he was wearing had ridden up as he got comfortable, showing the bandage on his left thigh.
