Okay, so this is cut because to the religious and strange nature of the post.

I have so very much sympathy for what you are talking about -- I have been sticking my metaphysical fingers into my spiritual ears and singing "LALALALALA!" about my own call in this direction for ten years or so, because I have this feeling that there's nothing quite so tacky as "white girl thinks she's a shaman."

I haven't any clever advice to offer, but I do have a very great deal of compassion for what you are going through.

It was a beautiful ritual, and it was done with reverence and respect. I cannot help but think that what you are doing is in keeping with Beauty...and after all, isn't that the point?

I totally understand. I feel that way about much of my spiritual work because I pull from various cultures and pantheons anyway. The idea of doing something so significant that's all from one culture and pantheon, and having no background/direct teaching for it, well, let's just say I'm not sure I'll be giving into those calls for a while. :)

But yes, it was beautifully done, and I can't imagine anyone would take offense to something with so much obvious respect imbued in it.

It was powerful. I think that if anyone is going to search, learn, and be respectful about a different faith, it would be you. You sound aware of what you are doing and the possible consequences.
The end was the most trancy for me as well. Google had many hits for blessingway, maybe there are other people out there in similar situations to you?

OK, I'm sorry for coming at you out of the blue like this, but the level of coincidence is just too high to let pass unnoticed. I just recently found the Whately Academy stories, and after reading them, I started in on the forums and story comments. I read enough of your comments to be interested in your LJ link. Clicked through to here, and I find that not only do you share some of the fascination I have for Navajo(Dineh) ceremony, but you've actually performed one. Looking further, not only are you also in TN, but we both live in Murfreesboro. And you are into fandom. If there's any possibility that I could participate the next time you put a ceremony together, or if there's something else, I would greatly appreciate your letting me know ( ... )
