I have been reading a lot lately and I find that I really have missed it a great deal. I think it's interesting that studying English keeps you from reading very much. Like they give you such an impossible workload that your life is those stories and no other. Sadly, my life wasn't the stories they made me read. What I learned was valuable and I do cherish it but some of the things I had to do almost cost me my enjoyment of reading.
The extreme specialization that the academic world strives for may be its biggest issue. Losing sense of the forest in order to see a single tree seems a bit odd to me, but maybe that says more about my world view than otherwise. I agree with Heinlein's statement that specialization is for insects. So I try to spread out my reading to as many different things that interest me, as who know where the next thing to rock your world will come from? I am looking forward to buying at least one or two books today, for that reason. Just not sure what I'm looking for.
Any way...happy reading.
