I luckily got to see Obama's speech live. Many of my classmates and friends did not. I was also, unfortunately, in the middle of a class room and could not truly freak out as much as I would have liked.
The speech was not as great as it could have been, but, it was still history in the making all the same.
For me, the most moving part of the speech was this:
"We remain a young nation, but in the words of scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness."
When I heard that, I just perked up. I felt proud, I felt hope. Those words spoke to every race and religion; spoke directly to anyone who has ever been hurt by their government, and, for me, that especially meant not only the African Americans, but the gays as well. As if he were promising them, us, freedom at last.
I know that change is on its way. I can only hope it is good change, and I have faith it will be.
On a less happy note... Fuck you Rick Warren, you hypocritical bastard.
Edit: I was searching for a text version of Obama's speech when I found this... Save it or it didn't happen, right? XD
What idiots.... >< *Sigh*
