This evening is a very sad time for me. My (cranky) horse of 23 years is gone. A few hours ago, my mom called from the stable to let me know that Joshua (who had been ill) had taken a turn for the worse (he was down and couldn't get up) and that the vet was on his way to put him down. It was semi-expected, but I'd been hoping to be able to go to my folks and see him one last time tomorrow.
Spousie had to go on a biz trip this morning and won't be back for a few days. This always wrecks havoc with the munchkin's equilibrium, so I planned to spend tonight at home, and go to the stable tomorrow and then spend the night at my folks. That way I'd be able to fall apart and munchkin would have some distraction while Mommy collapsed. Well... it didn't quite work out that way, and there is no way I'm driving when I'm an emotional disaster. So, munchkin got a mommy who tried desperately to stave off a small break-down, and failed.
I was sitting on the floor of her bedroom, trying not to loose it utterly and avoid scaring Munchkin. The adorable little angel gave me a concerned look and and asked "Mommy ok?" I told her that "Mommy is very sad because Mommy's pony Joshua has been very sick and isn't getting better, so he had to go away." She let me hug her and then gave me a determined look and said that she had to "find Mommy's band-aids". She went and found the Hello Kitty band-aids I have for her, brought one back to me, and carefully put it on my knee. She then patted my arm and asked if "Mommy better now?"
I love my little girl so much.
