When do you edit?

I'm working on my first multi-chapter podfic and I'm wondering what the pros and cons of editing chapter by chapter vs. once the whole podfic has been read is. Any tips/cautions/etc ( Read more... )

There's really no one right way to do it. For really long multi-chapter podfics, I personally edit as I go. Leaving all the editing until the end can, for me, seem really daunting, and make it so I never actually finish. Of course I also like to post each chapter as I finish it, since getting feedback is another good motivation to continue for me, but that's entirely a personal style thing. The main thing is to figure out what strategy will leave you feeling the most motivated and the least stressed.

This. I did a 4+ hour podfic where I waited until the end to edit. That was a mistake. It is much better for me to edit as I go. Some people probably hate the quality of my podfics because I never edit out breaths etc. I only edit out bloopers. I use GB too.

My 1st two podfics I edited at the end and used audacity but I liked the idea that you can edit the performance as you go with GB. At least until I realized that a better mic picks up my freaking breaths and that I breathe a.lot. and I breathe loudly because of different respiratory issues so...yay?

I have a feeling this is what I'll have to do given the level of editing I'm going to need to be doing. Stupid inability to breathe quietly.

If it makes you feel better, I manually silence all my breaths too. Breathing quietly is not a skill I have ever mastered either. I admittedly edit in audacity, so I don't know how difficult that is to do in GB, but it's definitely not an uncommon edit to have to make.
