I read off the screen, in Word's two-page reading mode so I just have to hit the space bar to change pages.

For me, time at the mic is at a premium, so I always mark up fics ahead of time, but I am a very fast reader, so what works for me is burdensome for other people. I scan through, underline any dialogue instructions that come after the dialogue (like, "'Wow,' she said flatly") so they'll catch my eye and I don't have to back up and rerecord the dialogue, and look up any words that might give me trouble and put pronunciations right in the text, in bold and brackets.

I agree that for fics you're recording in more than one session, it's ideal to stop recording at natural break points in the fic, so that any minor variations of volume etc. are less obvious (much of those can be smoothed out in editing, but it's nice to give yourself more of a cushion).

Otherwise my only tip is to experiment with what works for you, motivation-wise. I've done little projects in the middle of big ones to keep my spirits up, I've made playlists to keep my brain interested in the story while I'm not working on it, I've given up for months at a time and then come back when I couldn't shake the urge to read the story . . . whatever works for you. (I've never posted a WIP podfic, but that might work for some people as a method of publicly committing to the thing.)

oh so you dont work the whole fic first and then go back to reading? you only do a part? - that sounds reasonable maye one or two chapters ahead each session
and yes marking it bold and writing down pronunciations is also very good advice

and thanks for pointing out my maybe motivation problem- i never even thought about that- but yes doing small projects might help me, i also dont like to post wips because... wips i guess XD

thanks so much for your advice! i'm sure it will be handy on the way to podfic

I usually mark the whole thing first, but again, that's just because I'm a very fast skimmer and I usually have lots of time before the house is quiet enough to record. :) Whatever works for you!
