A Peck on the Lips FAQ

What is A Peck on the Lips?
A Peck on the Lips will be a compilation of multifandom femmeslash podfic, each of which is no more than five minutes long.

What's this for?
We wanted a podfic-centric celebration for the International Day of Femmeslash (July 16). Other communities are hosting fic and/or art challenges; we wanted to make our own contribution in our own fanwork genre.

How do you define femmeslash?
For the purpose of this challenge, we define femmeslash as any kind of romantic or sexual relationship between two or more people who self-identify - in their respective canons - as women.

Why should I participate?
For love of femmeslash and/or for love of podfic! This challenge is suited to podficcers who want to record one or more shorter works of femmeslash. Plus, you get to see your podfics collected together with other amazing short works. You'll be a part of a project that shows of the awesomeness of femmeslash and podfic in one fell swoop!

How long is 5 minutes of podfic?
It depends on your reading speed, but anywhere from 500-700 words should give you about 5 minutes.

Why title the fest A Peck on the Lips?
Because they don’t last as long as Makeout Sessions.

What's the timeline?
Sign-ups open on June 10th, 2011. Submissions for A Peck on the Lips open immediately and close on July 10th, 2011, and the compilation will be posted on July 16th, 2011 for the International Day of Femmeslash. We'll do a mid-way reminder post and another one the day before posting opens, but there won't be any mandatory check-ins.

How do I submit my podfic for A Peck on the Lips?
Please email a link to your podfic to nickelmountain (at) mail (dot) com. Don’t post it directly to the site! Unlike Makeout Sessions, A Peck on the Lips is a compilation. We want to show off your work in a nice, shiny collection!

Do I have to sign-up?
Sort of! Sign ups are open right up through the last day to post (July 10th, 2011), but we do ask that you head over to this spreadsheet and update it as you progress with choosing a story, getting author permission, and posting.

Do I need to get permission from the author to record a story?
Yes, but we won't ask for proof unless there's a complaint. We're trusting to everyone upholding honor among femmeslashers!

What if someone else already claimed a story I want to pod?
Ordinarily we’re in favor of multipodicity (multiple podfics of the same story), but for the purposes of this fest, we ask that there not be any repeats. Sorry!

How many podfics can I record?
I don't know. How many can you record? We'll take as many as you have to offer!

Are crossovers okay?
Absolutely.

Can I record something explicit?
All ratings are welcome!

Is there any specific format I should follow to introduce the podfic?
Yes! At the very beginning of your recording, please make sure to say 1) the title, 2) the author, 3) the reader (that’s you!), and 4) the fandom. Please make sure to include all four! You can also include warnings or not, at your discretion.

What if I miss the July 10th deadline?
If it’s officially July 11th in every time zone on the planet and you still haven’t emailed your podfic, then unfortunately, it’s too late. I will need the time to put together the compilation, and I can’t wait around for stragglers. But if you miss the deadline and still want to associate your podfics with the fest, email them anyway and I’ll post the links. Your podfics won’t be part of the compilation, but they can still be part of the International Day of Femmeslash!

Can I crosspost my finished stories? When?
Please post here first, but after the compilation is posted on July 16th, go wild. (Here at podfic_project  , we think that pecks on the lips should be widely available for everyone who wants them.)
