since I've been tempted to get into it three times in the past 24 hours

I really dislike feeling like this is necessary because (a) it is tedious as fuck and (b) I am a strong proponent of the idea that authorial intent is of little to no value in discussing a text. (It’s kind of surreal having this conversation around a narrative which went out of its way to challenge the idea that the voice of the author should ( Read more... )

I was disappointed in reading JP's statements at JIB. However, in his defense I think it mostly comes from (1) the tweets he gets begging for the brothers relationship to come back and (2) he doesn't know where the writers are going to take this. I can't believe he doesn't see the abuse (it's hard to miss unless you close your eyes). I wasn't surprised at JA's comments as I read an interview earlier where he described Sam as being self-centered. But he said nothing about Dean's problems, so he feeds the Dean fanatics. I lost all respect for him after that.

I was disappointed after the finale because it seemed they backed off the possession story by not allowing Dean to actually apologize and making Sam say "I lied" because the context was so ambiguous to me. I'm not sure if that was in relation to the whole season or to coming after Dean after saying he would let Dean handle it.

Knocking Sam out, again, is just getting tedious. One fan I read even had the gall to say it was because Dean loved him so much. GAG. Luckily they were given the hard facts, that love does not and should not equal violence. For me, I doubt Dean loves Sam. If he did, he would want what's best for him which obviously, he doesn't.

Can you give me your tmblr page so I can read what you post there? Thanks.

I use the same handle on Tumblr. It's very multi-interest, though, if you're just looking for Supernatural stuff that tag is here.

Their attitude about this is extremely disappointing and I don't excuse it, of course.

Apparently Barnum and Bailey there are claiming credit for the "I lied" line, rather than something which seems to have been in relation to Dean's plan in the finale. I mean, even that would be Sam soft-pedaling it a bit, because he definitely didn't say he was on board with being left unconscious in enemy territory so Dean could have his solo moment of glory, but I think it's reasonable not to pick a fight with someone who has a big old hole in their chest, so.

"Dean hits Sam because he loves him!" Fuck it, I love watching these people smoke themselves out.

For me, I doubt Dean loves Sam. If he did, he would want what's best for him which obviously, he doesn't.

At this point I kind of don't care whether or not he loves Sam. All I can tell is that his behavior is primarily, possibly singularly, motivated by his desire for control. Abuse is not love; coexisting with love does not magically make it non-abusive.
