I think I'm just going to indefinitely revive the disclaimer that I put on my very first post about The Originals, which is that I understand these shows are Problematic (TM) and I am willing to stipulate that you win at Not Liking This Problematic Thing. Comments informing me of why I am wrong to like a show, storyline, or character will remain ( Read more... )

IDK...I thought immortality predated them but Tessa just created the spell that gave them immortality...I don't think anything necessarily happens to the vampires if they die? I could be wrong about this, though.

That'd make sense. I'd be really interested to see if there's stakes for vampires at large with the fate of Amara or the Other Side.

She wants loyalty, she wants close ties, she wants commitment. I think it's just that for once she wants to be bound by someone else's loyalty to her, rather than by her loyalty to someone else?

Exactly! Rebekah's in this really interesting place where she's secure enough in her power over the world at large that she really can be ruled by love in a way the vast majority of characters on either show can't be, and it's just enough for her to be able to see real emotional fulfillment and just not be able to get there through her relationships with her horrible brothers.

Hayley and Klaus have such a great dynamic. I just am floored by the psychology of the werewolves. I think they are as consistent as the doppelgangers. And so seeing them in a situation where two of them have to work together like this, defending something neither of them believe they ever really had, is fascinating.
