Why would fandom turn you off a character?

haha well I can understand this because it sort of happens with me and Daryl on The Walking Dead. I like him well enough but fandom looooooves him. And seeing all the love and "Daryl dies, we riot" stuff annoys me. So I try to avoid it so I can still like his character, but even like...when new ppl watch the show and I ask them who their favorite is and they almost always say Daryl, I just...lol, I just don't get it. Somehow I missed the boat on this one.

More because of the amount of rape denialism one encounters when one ventures the suggestion that she didn't, strictly speaking, have to do a lot of the shit she did for "survival." Stumbling into one too many "feminist" assertions that Stefan "shamed" her when he found out about ~her vampirism~ because of his character flaws has soured me considerably, ngl.
