And I feel like he gets that? He's all tear stained and apologetic? Like. I'm looking forward to Tyler's arc on The Originals about a million times more than I could have ever looked forward to a season of Forwood, lbr, but I do think it *required* a change in Tyler's ~psyche. It required him to go from being devoted to him and then not calling her all summer. That was a definite change from before, Imo. So I get that Caroline is hurt by it and I actually thought it was a good thing that she COULD put her foot down and tell him that they were done. Like. I also thought it was a good change for Tyler because FUCK YEAH CROSSOVER. But I really am not getting the criticism of Caroline coming from left, right and centre on this issue? I am so doomed to be out of step with everyone. IT'S MY CUUUURSE.

Yes!!! I think Tyler/Klaus is actually really interesting in terms of like, Klaus and Klaus' behaviour. Because Klaus sired Tyler at random? As in, Tyler wasn't one of Klaus' designated favourites like Stefan or Marcel? Klaus doesn't care enough about Tyler to be at his floppiest, and yet he positively enjoys him. So he kind of occupies this midway point between the droves of people that Klaus would kill in a second and Klaus' special bffs. Which = LOL. I'm totally ready to see Tyler learning how to play Klaus, as well, because he was terribad last season but now he's getting a whole arc to find out! :D

I just feel like it's handled in the way mild drug use is on TVD - it's just a part of their lives, not really a huge normative problem with massively overstated risks.

How people think they deserve to be treated is not the same as how they actually deserve to be treated, though. Tyler is used to the expectation that he constantly apologize for himself.

I'm also not really seeing condemnation of Caroline left, right, and center, tbh? Granted my f-list/dash is a pretty narrow segment of fandom, but from where I sit the people raising a flag about her behavior here are still pretty sympathetic to her and also pretty much consist of, like, me.

There was a looooot of Caroline condemnation on the #the vampire diaries tag on Tumblr as the episode was airing. I was on it on my phone at like 2am, my time, because whenever I can't sleep I try and piece together the episode, lulz. I'm not sure how comprehensive a picture of fandom that provides, but there was definitely criticism. Although, in the interests of balance there also seemed to be a (smaller) contingent of Forwood stans on that same tag that were crying that Tyler was 'OOC', which I vehemently disagree with tbh.
