You didn't hate this episode? WIN!

I mean, it doesn't seem like you hated it from your review? I loved it but the universal Livejournal reception has been rather negative. SO YAY FOR YOU! :DD

So...is there any reason the doppelganger blood needed to break the curse that Esther put on Klaus had to come from Tatia's line?

Probably. I thought it had to come from a Petrova doppelganger, as opposed to... any old doppelganger? LOL if Klaus could have used Stefan though. LOL, LOOL.

Amnesiac dickbag Stefan might be my favorite performance of PW’s to date.

Haha! The world's most apt description, tbh! I actually kind of love him. He's sort of... Stefan in his ~pure ~form. Just the essentials. I think it's great at uncovering just how dangerous Stefan has been for, like, this whole time. If anything that danger was mitigated by his life experience. Well, except for all the people he massacred. The danger wasn't mitigated for them. Hm.

I AM ALSO INTERESTED IN THE RIPPER THING. Like:

Stefan’s hypothesis that his turning being particularly traumatic was the root cause is legitimate - and what if he was right?

???!!!!! :OOO

Also here for him just being a bag of dicks. A+. I didn't even feel like he sounded that petty. Elena totally led him up the garden path. She said she wasn't keeping her relationship with Damon from him, but... uhm, she was. I just thought it was salient how easily he twisted the whole thing with her. Like, he dealt some serious blows against the best manipulator on the show. Well, best non-Stefan manipulator.

Tyler declining to drop everything he wants to do in his life in order to limit himself to exactly what she wants to do with her life is not just a disappointment or a hurt, but a lack of INTEREST and RESPECT, ie, a betrayal.

Really?!?!

I thought Tyler positively demonstrated a lack of interest and respect w/r/t Caroline and she had fair reason to be upset him. Like. It's one thing for Tyler to want to leave Mystic Falls and not to go to college with Caroline and do his own thing, but the manner in which he did it really strung Caroline along. The last time he was onscreen he gave the impression that he was really, genuinely committed to the his relationship with Caroline and now that's apparently changed, but he hasn't been upfront about it. They don't see each other for months, and we don't know whether they've communicated, and then he leaves a voice message to tell her he backed out of their mutually agreed plans. Like, that is a lack of interest/respect, surely?

Also, I am really worried that the show is going to erase Tyler's p.o.v. We haven't seen what's made him behave this way, or what he wanted to do with the werewolves. Like, he wanted to stay someplace for a YEAR and we don't even get to see the place he was at or what he wanted to do. I am worried he's just going to look like the ~villain in Forwood so Steroline can get some traction. It feels weird because I saw these two breaking up anyway, for the reasons you stated.

I mean, right now, at this moment in time, they're obviously less culpable and for fewer bad acts. But is that really about innate character?

I really, really don't think it's innate. I could see any of these kids going all Salvatore in a century or so.

I actually thought that was kind of weirdly cute in a vampire way that he was like “yeah you killed dad but HE WAS AWFUL AND I DID UNCLE ZACH SO IT’S OK BRO!!”

LOL really? I thought Damon was at his most manipulative EVER in this episode. Like, Damon is literally the least capable of manipulation but he gave a good crack at it this episode, emphasising all the wrongs that Stefan had done ect. ect. It kind of fell apart in this moment though.

I don’t think those cholera patients were actually all that paranoid.

Oh my God!!

:OOOOO

Thanks for linking! I didn't know that was anything more than an urban myth. Lulz.

Matt setting up cameras all around his own house could also be misconstrued as paranoid, but this is Mystic Falls. THE NIGHTMARE IS REAL. I did get a kick out of Roering’s turn as Gregor.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES!!!!!!!!!!

Also yes to Matt!Gregor! I am loving Matt!Gregor! His accent isn't that bad! xDDDDD

That, and upon further reflection, I think it was awesome the way they were, like, grooming him as the Ripper? Just telling him that those "urges," which all vampires feel, were UNCONTROLLABLE in special snowflake Stefan, therefore setting him up to go over the edge because he has no framework for the difference between "not wanting to stop" and "totally, cosmically unable to stop." ABSTINENCE HAS A HIGH FAILURE RATE, KIDS.

lol YOU TRIED DAMON. YOU TRIED. He just couldn't stop himself. He gave himself away in the first scene, when Stefan goaded him into running off the road so he could look like "the fun brother."

This upthread is my reasoning for Caroline and Tyler.

Matt!Gregor is fun!

This.

EXACTLY THIS! There was a legit tug of war between Damon and Elena on who would be the one to reprogram Stefan and all the while they were increasing the liklihood of ripperifying him. Like. Elena's annoyance at having to remind Stefan of her name was glorious but her attempt to link herself (and only herself) to his human!good!side rather than his 'other' ripper!side was surely flawed. Damon's "you killed our father and fucked me over and massacred innocent people and fucked me over" felt like a genuine yet doomed effort to control the narrative but that was equally bad. Being told you WILL lose control isn't... uhm, helpful!

Same with Caroline. "You can't do people." It turned out he could! Lmao.

ABSTINENCE HAS A HIGH FAILURE RATE, KIDS.

AHAHAHA. #101

I liked it a lot and I am glad you did too!

:D

Oh yeah, for sure. When they were lying on the floor afterwards and Stefan conceded that Damon was the fun brother had such a gleeful look on his face. Like. What it takes to goad Damon ahahaha.

Forever lol-ing @ P. Wheezy's 'paint me like one of your French girls'-ing.

This upthread is my reasoning for Caroline and Tyler.

I will be there shortly! :)
