lol your title.

OMG JACK/JULIET IS MY SHIT. Weirdly enough it's probably the most functional relationship in the quadrangle of doom, lol, only they are both very fucked up people so there is that too.

My memory of the earlier seasons is terrible but yeah, lots of gender fail on this show, pretty much.

Oh and apparently they're all dead, WHY THE FUCK NOT??!
Indeed. If you thought TVD was WHY THE FUCK NOT??!, well, Lost is a whole other level of WHY THE FUCK NOT??!. Enjoy.

like, they don't even have scraggly uneven ends? is that really a survival priority? It's like everyone on BSG being exactly the same level of tan after months and months in space.

Jack/Juliet is so creepy and interesting. I thought it happened with that fantastic light touch throughout the back half of the season, both on her part and by the narrative.

If you thought TVD was WHY THE FUCK NOT??!, well, Lost is a whole other level of WHY THE FUCK NOT??!. Enjoy.

SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY! I kind of failed my first philosophy class, so the show was almost over when I actually got a brilliant philosophy professor who explained it to me in terms I can understand. BUT THE NAMES!! LOCKE! ROUSSEAU! DESMOND'S MIDDLE NAME IS DAVID SO DAVID HUME!

I never knew why I was uncomfortable with the way pregnancy is shown on Lost, so thank you for articulating why it's problematic. Pair Sun's pregnancy with Claire's need to raise Aaron or whatever, and you get two women for whom abortion isn't an option, which makes the show less controversial, but fails at a gender level. Gender is not something this show does well, otherwise the fandom would be bowing down to Kate instead of hating her.

Jack/Juliet. At the time I was still Sawyer/Kate, so I was okay with it, but I was weirded out by the Stockholmy-ness between them. I'm very curious to see what you think of ~future developments.

WHY THE FUCK NOT??!

Buckle up, it gets batshit from here on out.

It has the Sorkinitis problem because I think in some ways it does very well with women in a very quiet way. Just the fact that there are a lot of women who relate in a bunch of everyday, believable ways is still a rare treat. (IMO some segment of fandom would be gross about Kate regardless of writing quality.) But it means that when something as common as abortion is off the table, it's jarring because of the stuff that works. You know? Statistically, at least one of the women we see regularly has had at least one abortion. And what, she forgot?

lol, you know me, I'm fine with Stockholmy ships as long as I'm reasonably confident that the narrative knows that's what's up? And Jack/Juliet strikes me as deliberately creepy.

Buckle up, it gets batshit from here on out.

wheeeeeee!

I'm in the middle of my fourth re-watch and I *just* finished Season 3 last night. It's like...fate or something. =P ( ... )

hee!

the Lostaways continue referring to Ben's people as "the others". Not "the hostiles" or "the natives" or any other name.

Right. Especially since Others doesn't just mean "not us." They never refer to Desmond as an Other, frex.

I thought the group's reactions to Jack/Juliet were pretty believable. Because they're not wrong to question Juliet's motivations, and it's not entirely out of left field to think that he's been compromised. But they get so caught up in ~feeling betrayed that they just shun rather than figuring out what's going on, which just reinforces Jack's dependence on her.

And then Ben goes for an "enemy-of-my-enemy" approach, trying to convince Jack that Naomi's people are a threat, that they are "other" to both groups. He knows it's his best hope of getting Jack to cooperate.

And it was so great that it backfired. If you push someone too far, your enemy becomes THEIR friend.

Dharma vs. the Hostiles is another good example of the "us and them" dynamic. Though at least they ( ... )

They never refer to Desmond as an Other

And that's mostly because Jack met him once. Otherwise they might have assumed Desmond was working for Ben at the Swan. Just like Mikhail at the Flame. Or Gretta and Bonnie at the Looking Glass. Desmond gets a pass because Jack says so. Juliet does not get the same trust. Though the situations are somewhat different and it's not out of character for the Losties to distrust her.

If you push someone too far, your enemy becomes THEIR friend.

Enemies and friends are highly relative terms on this show. Ethan and Goodwin were friends who became enemies. Juliet was an enemy who is becoming a friend. Allegiances and alliances will continue to change as events progress.

"Hostile" is kind of worse than "Other," though.Niether is particularly nice nor accurate. And neither implies trying to *understand* them as people. From Dharma's perspective, they are hostile. From the Losties perspective, they are others. From Rousseau's persepctive, everybody is an "other". None of these persepctives is the whole ( ... )

Oooh, I like what you say about s3 overarching themes.

She really does want to help Sun and protect Kate from the wild animals and get off the island, and all of that makes her look like her affiliation with the 815 survivors is genuine.

Yes, this. This is what makes Juliet so good at what she does. She's almost honest. And it's... weirdly like how I feel with Ben, except Ben's a better liar.

I'm totally here for the not-quite-Stockholm-syndrome relationship she has with Jack. Most people would be susceptible under the circumstances, but Jack latches in with all his terrifying intensity because Juliet lets him see just enough of her ~damage. IMO it's not just that she needs fixing, but that he can tell it's actually a lost cause and he's most comfortable setting himself up to fail.

A+. Jack/Juliet is SO INTERESTING.

Yeah, the pregnancy thing is just... not awesome.

Kate ♥

Brace yourself for s4. S4 is my actual favourite season of LOST.

Juliet is so great. <333

SO HOOKED ON S4. I started last night and barely managed to pry myself away for sleep and gym. I'm watching the eighth episode.

I watched Lost last fall? Can't even remember when, but I got almost through season six and had absolutely no clue what the hell was going on. I thought seasons 5 and 6 were way too confusing, but I do want to finish the series so I will definitely be going back and starting with maybe season 4 to refresh my memory. I definitely enjoyed the earlier seasons much more!!

ha, I have been loving the increasing levels of crack. "LOL YOU THOUGHT THAT SHIT WAS CRAY?!" is a creative philosophy I can get behind.
