SPN month: best use of music
Dead or Alive! I really love how accessible this show is, aesthetically, and how much I believe that the characters are enjoying the music as much as we do. I totally love the character beats in that scene. Sam takes some convincing to put on the front, but once he commits to it, he’s in it. Dean - it’s not that he doesn’t like the music? But it’s the performance itself of being blase and unaffected that comforts him a little, not the music itself.
(There are things that are a little....hinky about what gets counted as representative of American rock. I'll commit to hinky. Like, the sucking void that is the absence of Joan Jett is enough to earn the side-eye from me. I always love the music we get, it's just that it overwhelmingly seems to come from only a small and suspiciously homogenous subset of American music I love.)
