IF YOU GET ROOFIED, YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO DIE FOR IT.

Seriously. There was so much about this episode that legit triggered me.

I was pretty appalled with the way he in - in this episode, where Ric is doing his whole song and dance - dates his problems to when Klaus compelled him to do something. Um, really? Not the months he'd spent before that ripping Appalachia to bloody shreds? K then.

This. What. the. fuck. WHAT IS A STEFAN. The writers have botched this arc worse than I ever thought possible. And I say that as a hardcore skeptic.

But if there's any validity to the idea that Vampires Are People Too and they All Deserve A Chance because They Can Be Good, then the "oooh, I have a chronic condition that I'm going to have to manage for the rest of my life, MIGHT AS WELL JUST DIE RIGHT NOW" business is kind of extremely disturbing to me?

Yeah, I get you. Damon sitting this one out didn't really bother me tbh, since I honestly don't think the alternative is any better - but the way this whole story was unproblematically framed was the least self-aware this show has been in the history of ever.

The glimmer of character work for Bonnie was one of the few bright spots in a mountain of faecal matter.

And I do think with some tweaking it could've....not failed? I do think it makes sense for Elena and Stefan to paper it over, I just think that should be accepted as unhealthy and terrible. I'd have loved to have seen some parallels of Stefan/Elena and Klaus/Stefan, which would explain his behavior without excusing it. As it is, we end up romanticizing one abusive relationship and totally othering and burying the other.
