Lavinia tells Matthew how even she thinks she should DIE FOR OUR SHIP, Robert whines about how Cora at death's door right in front of him is a disturbance to his lifestyle, and both the single moms decide they're just too noble to catch any financial lifeline they get thrown.
But it does leave off with Bates getting taken away in cuffs, so. I take the lulz where I can find them.

There is that.
About four episodes ago, I was chatting with someone privately and I said, "Poco's going to hate the end of S2, isn't she? Like, really hate." And the other person said, "Yeah, yeah she is."
Episode theme: women choosing men = women choosing their own happiness. I don't know if that makes sense. I might have to actually post about this 'cause I haven't it right yet, but this episode epitomizes for me the old-school paternal theme that women can be happiest when their lives are centered around making men happy. It is such a nefarious trope because there is a bit of truth in the idea that it is within relationships (of various kinds) that lots of humans find a sense of satisfaction, but this particular trope is always focused on women, the noble sacrifices of women, the ways women serve and love and live and, just, uggg. I think it is the exact converse of the Man!Pain trope, but I don't know if there is any kind of shorthand for calling it out. (Is there? I want there to be.)
IDK DUDE. and I fucking loved Lavinia--her unexplored backstory = one of my favorite things in the show, and she was EASILY one of the best of the "upstairs" cast, in my opinion. and I saw her death coming from a mile away BUT THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT ANY BETTER.
