I really want an excuse for my obsessive viewing this weekend that sounds a little cooler than "I've spent the last three days in bed being by turns hyperemotional and unconscious and incapable of anything more strenuous than clicking the 'next episode' button" but waaaaah, this cold. No, sometimes I emerge for soup and juice and tylenol, because I ( Read more... )

I've been kind of hoping the trickster would show up again but I didn't think it would be in such a gutwrenching episode

Mystery Spot!! I love how this episode is like crack followed by horrible angst, all in one package. I <3 the Trickster. Most people hope he shows up again, lol.

BTW, what I was talking about earlier, about demons possessing people (women)-- Now we know that demons used to be human, so I guess they usually identify with one sex or the other. Even if they are some larger force now, they all started as human.

EVERYONE LOVES HIM. Well, okay, I'm sure some people are indifferent to him, but he's quite awesome ( ... )

Also, there's the interesting fact that the Trickster is the only MotW on SPN who walks unkilled at the end of his ep (S2).

Although that's not quite true anymore. Even if you're not counting Lenore, there's the one married couple from this season. Who also survive by being Just That Awesome.

Well, Lenore wasn't causing problems, which the Trickster was. They just couldn't get him.

There was that other witch, too, but that comes later. (I actually have issues with That Married Couple, but that's another story.)

Wait. Which other witch? I'm blanking. Are you talking about the Wiccan gal we met recently? Because I don't think she counts.

The witch who plays for years.

Oh yes! I'd forgotten about that one. I think that must also have been a case of Just That Awesome. Or something. I'm really not sure what the reasoning was there, from the writers' side of things.

I guess the Croatoan thing doesn't count; after all, there was no one person involved. But it wasn't one Sam and Dean ever really solved and fixed.

Edit: Also! Reapers!

But it wasn't one Sam and Dean ever really solved and fixed.

But it also wasn't really a one off, in that it was part of the overall Demon Plan.

I'm really not sure what the reasoning was there, from the writers' side of things.

That was actually my problem with the married ones. Like, the boys can't really do anything, so they just sort of bumble around and then let them go? IDK, it particularly rubbed me the wrong way because of Dean's insistence in killing someone two eps prior, but these two are murdering all over the place and it's played for laughs.

Well, yes. I think the main thing here was that the boys didn't have the power to take them on? But yeah, the tone was just wrong given what we'd just been through. I mean, we weren't even done angsting over the other yet!

I think my problem was the tone. If the boys couldn't do anything about it, didn't have the power, then okay, but IDK, let's do something besides have them be wacky.

aw, I'm so glad he's gotten such a positive reception! And yeah, I kind of understand why he's not around more, because it can be hard to maintain a trickster without having them eat the story, but still, he's great.
