International Women's Day linkspam

If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, it is that human rights are women's rights - and women's rights are human rights. Let us not forget that among those rights are the right to speak freely - and the right to be heard. (Hillary Rodham Clinton)

THANK YOU for this. It's not women's day any more here, but I crossposting the vid to my facebook :) It makes me smile that the date my paper was (supposed to!) come out, along with my article on female oppression, is women's day.

Great linkspam. I haven't seen much celebration of International Woman's Day other than a few FB statuses but grouping relevant articles together is so much better ( ... )

Thanks for this wonderful collection of links. Awesome ladies tag indeed, but how can we expect any less when Hillary is involved? ♥

Gender Differences and Casual Sex will also come in handy the next time I'm debunking the evo-psych pseudoscience that some of the seduction community believes in.

OH MY GOD MY FAVORITE I LOVE HER.

UGH, EVO-PSYCH CRAP. YMY blog generally keeps up with these kinds of sociological studies, it's a fantastic resource in general.

SERIOUSLY! On my Facebook profile, I have her under "people who inspire you", and it gets me weird comments because I'm an obviously masculine/het/cis guy, but IDGAF BECAUSE SHE'S LIKE ROSLIN REINCARNATED.

UGH, EVO-PSYCH CRAP.

Lol, yeah. I don't have anything against the discipline in principle, but there's a huge tendency in pop culture to argue a (frequently sexist) preconception and back it up with "Evo psych says so!" without any academic basis.

I'm getting that impression. Thanks for sharing it!

I KNOW, RIGHT? Apparently MM was partially inspired by HRC during her work on the role. I CAN'T EVEN.

Exactly! They're just-so stories. As if NATURE IS MAGIC.

I need to start doing link roundups more often, I think; I always have ten tabs open and never do anything with them.

The Gender Differences & Casual Sex study seems to be a "water is wet" kind of study to me.
The "God Bless This Union" placard at the wedding pic made me laugh.

heh, very much agreed, but I think there's a crucial place for this kind of thoughtful takedown of evo-psych just-so stories.

Evolutionary apologism always seems like a form of neo-predestination to me.
I always think so what if evolution made you into a sociopath, if you break the law you should go to jail anyway. Apparently this makes me a right-winger, btw.
