What a fucking disappointment.

end of line

I actually do not post all my crackpot theories here, sometimes because they sound too ridiculous and sometimes they sound too obvious.  This ending?  Too obvious until Revelations; too ridiculous now.  So, I guess I never saw it coming?  Whatever.  This might or might not be my least favorite finale, ( Read more... )

bsg: lee adama why are you like this, wtf, bsg, bsg: laura roslin is my favorite, episode reviews

Yeah, I probably won't cheer you up on this one. I pretty much agree with all of this, with the one caveat that I did like Baltar and Caprica's scene on New Earth Which Has The Same Constellations As Old Earth What A Coincidence!!!! Yes, implying that Baltar was only a scientist because he was running away from farming chafes, but being a president/promiscuous lout/pretentious asshole/etc. because he was running away from his father does kind of work. "I know quite a bit about farming." Oh man. Basically all of the Baltar/Caprica material works for me, though NOT the final walk through the park at the end. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TREAT YOUR JAPONESE ROBOT DOGS, AUDIENCE? MAYBE THEY WILL RISE UP AND KILL YOU!1!1!

For some reason the Tyrol thing bothers me the most of everything in the episode. I'm actually totally fine with people being terrible, terrible people or whatever. But then Tigh is all, "Yeah, if someone had killed Ellen I totally would have killed them in cold blood and ruined a peace treaty and killed thousands too!!!" which, dude, YOU killed Ellen, but hey. As if Tory is *so much worse* than all the other sociopathic characters in the show for killing Cally. Like, dude, you just agreed to a deal with CAVIL and you have recently been in support of rights for the non-Final Five Cylon models who agreed to the GENOCIDE OF THE HUMAN RACE, but no, Tory totally deserves it, the bitch!!!! If someone had taken out a gun and shot Tyrol dead over the thing, or at least told him what an asshole he is, I would probably have forgiven Tyrol, but he *continues believing he's right* and everyone agrees with this. Arghhhhhhhh.

I know this makes me sound like a monster, but I just felt completely unmoved by the Adama/Roslin "Remember when we wanted to have a cabin? I'll build one and think of you!" stuff. It just pushed too hard. And, yeah, Bill leaving Lee?

Apparently the Opera House vision which has been referred to for YEARS turns out to be that Gaius and Caprica follow Hera for like twelve feet, into a room filled with other people who could also catch up with her, and then letting her go a few seconds later. And then Gaius gives that speech. HAHA, Gaius, I really was so sure he was joking until I realized with creeping horror that it was serious.

What was the point of setting up Lee as the President when he ABDICATES IT TO ROMO LAMPKIN, anyway? There was so much setup this season that went absolutely nowhere, when it seemed obvious where it would go (i.e. ANYWHERE ELSE).

Kara/Sam was very moving. Of course, it relies on the fact that Hybrids Aren't People Too! The show takes a big stand for euthenizing people who talk non-linearly, the moment their use to society is over.

Remind me why I ever liked this show.

...Yeah, part of the reason I haven't been commenting so much on your posts is that since the finale I haven't watched an episode, besides The Plan. And I have a hard time imagining going back to it, knowing how it ends. I feel like the finale pretty much sapped my enthusiasm for the show.

RIGHT??!!??! RIGHT??!?!?! IN A WORLD GONE MAD, WE WILL NOT SPANK THE MONKEY ROBOT, THE MONKEY ROBOT WILL SPANK US!!!!

YES JUST YES on the Tyrol and Tigh thing. Just, what the fuck? Tigh has done nothing to show he ever deserves the moral high ground, ever, the idea that I'm supposed to take his word on that is just appalling. And I just kept trying to resolve my picture of Tyrol as someone who had genuine compassion for others, who tried to pass up a chance to hit Bill Adama in the face I personally would purchase tickets for the pleasure, who genuinely loved others, with someone who could do what he did.

I know this makes me sound like a monster, but I just felt completely unmoved by the Adama/Roslin "Remember when we wanted to have a cabin? I'll build one and think of you!" stuff. It just pushed too hard.

ME TOO. And I loved that pairing from the very beginning but this was like...I wouldn't care about Laura unless Bill was crying? I WILL SAY THIS FOR THE WRITERS, Bill was consistent with his character development in this episode. In that he was a complete selfish prick.

And, yeah, Bill leaving Lee?

I can't get over that. I can't. If you care about someone, you don't confirm their worst fears just because you can.

Yeah, on the one hand, I did like that the Opera House vision was twisted a little so that Six wasn't a threat to Hera. On the other hand, WHAT THE FUCK?

The show takes a big stand for euthenizing people who talk non-linearly, the moment their use to society is over.

RIGHT? WHAT THE FUCK? They couldn't turn off the motors and let the fleet drop into an ocean?

I'm not even going to bother with The Plan. I don't care. I hope the show hasn't been entirely ruined for me. I think there was a lot of interesting character and philosophical stuff that I haven't even scraped the surface of, but I just don't want to anymore.

YES EXACTLY. And you're absolutely right about Tyrol refusing to punch Bill in the face. It's like, there's no reason for Tyrol to have been this dead to me. I talked to somebody the day after the finale who loved Tyrol strangling Tory and it just made me fume so much.

The Plan: There are about two moments of absolute top-flight Jane humour. The entire 90 minutes were really worth it for them. The rest...I think there's probably something interesting there, but it makes it very hard to care.

Someone who knows to step back and count to ten even when faced with Bill Adama's bullshit is not someone who kills someone else with their bare hands, whatever the provocation.

I don't know if I care enough to watch The Plan, though now that I know there is JE awesomeness, maybe someday.

Ha ha yes.

Well, it's, like, three lines, so it's not like it's that much awesomeness. The rest of it is a big foggy in my memory--it's not necessarily that it's bad, but, you know, caring was, well, hard.

I'm not even going to bother with The Plan.

Don't. It's so completely not even worth it. If you thought this was bad... let's just say I didn't hate the finale half as much as you did, and even I wanted to throw things at the TV watching The Plan.

I lol'd.

And yeah, total word.

This too. My friend kept going on about how heartbreaking the couple were in the end, and I'm like, "HEARTBREAKING? BILL ABANDONING HIS SON FOR NO REASON. I'LL SHOW YOU HEARTBREAKING."
