it's "sexist fat hate ruins my favorite shows"* week!

Nov 20, 2009 16:05

This week's Bones looked at first as if it was going to deal with the housing crisis - "The Foot in the Foreclosure." TWIST! It's actually Booth and Brennan delving into a WORLD FULL OF FATTIES AND THE FREAKS WHO LOVE THEM.

The victim, who has recently lost 100 pounds, is presumed to have been fat because she was "fixated on overeating," and ( Read more... )

assholes, body image, feminism, body positivity, sexuality

At least these fat girls weren't actually stalkers and attempted murderers? Maybe we're learning?

Demeaning fat women has been a reliable venue for demeaning and/or vicious jokes in our society for decades. It had without doubt been acceptable and remains so to this day.

Think I can use the word demeaning one more time in that post?

Woman-hate is popular this week. Sarah Palin wrote a book! Kill the Bitch!

I KNOW RIGHT? And really, if "Going Rouge" were called anything else I would want to read it. But that is so sexist and dismissive I'm not even interested.

Going Rogue is the Palin book. Going Rouge is the anti-Palin book by a bunch of liberal so-called feminist authors, published on the same day and titled and designed to look like the Palin book.

I'm now strangely proud for stopping watching Bones after Season 1.

And ugh. I just downloaded new Castle. NOW I THINK I MAY JUST DELETE IT STRAIGHT AWAY.

I really have no words about this. Other than the fact that as a 'big-boned' powerfully assertive successful female, I have to pity the people who write such fat-hating pseudojokes on television shows. Because how out of touch with reality could you be to think that weight determines intelligence or success or desirability.

And yes. I'm going to use my Cake icon. To prove some sort of point. I LIKE CAKE. AND I HAVE A MASTERS DEGREE. GO SUCK IT, TV LAND.

I like Bones, very much! But this is bullshit! I think perhaps reading the spoiler, if you haven't, will put you off this week's Castle for sure. It...was a hot mess. No, it was a lukewarm but viciously misogynist mess. WHY, CASTLE, WHY?

I wish I could just laugh at them, but they are out there spewing their hatred at people who are still learning that they are attractive and healthy and can be assertive and happy with themselves, you know? Like, now, I can watch this train wreck and say YOU ARE BIGOTS AND YOU ARE STUPID, YOU ARE STUPID BIGOTS, but when I was in ED headspace, it would've sent me into a really bad few days. IT'S OKAY THOUGH, BECAUSE NON-SKINNY WOMEN = HILARIOUS.

See you can like all the cake you want! It only makes you Morally Reprehensible if you happen not to look like Stana or Emily. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS.

UUUUUUGGGGHHHHHHH.

This is why my favourite show is EUReKA. And if you're hopping overseas, Primeval (which won't be back until 2011) and Doctor Who (the last companion was the lovely and hilarious Catherine Tate (sends you to a photo of her).

Bah Humbug.

I generally watch a lot of British TV and a big selling point (other then it's usually better then US TV) is that the actors look like real people. Not everyone is pretty or thin or has perfect teeth. I love it.

And I just want to live in EUReKA. That place is AWESOME.
