it's hot hot hot hot hot

The weather in Japan, to borrow from Maria, is like a Dementor. It sucks out your life force and leaves you a useless blob on the ground.

I'm sure we've established by now that this relationship has been coughing blood for a while, but this morning was like kicking it in the nuts.

お母さん(host mother) confronted me as I was sitting at the breakfast table studying for kanji and drinking OJ; and, she told me that I should stop eating breakfast so early. I should eat with everyone else because I'm not living in a dorm, I'm living with a host family and eating before everyone else is incredibly impolite. In a different situation, I would consider this a reasonable request. However, in this case, I think her argument would hold more water if the participants of her new "let's be a family!" kick included more than just me and Julia. What happened to まかな(Makana) and お父さん(host father)? Are they now excluded from the family? Why don't they have to join in on our morning "family bonding" experience?

And let's not forget what brought this confrontation on. It's because I'm a bread thief. That's right. I steal bread, guys.

She came to this brilliant conclusion when she looked in my bookbag yesterday morning and decided that I had stashed away a slice of bread to take to school. I have a number of problems with this.
  1. Why the heck would I want her bread? I can get my own, thanks.
  2. Why is she looking in my bookbag? By studying 漢字 at the table rather than my room, does that somehow give her the right to examine my stuff?
  3. Even if I were taking bread, what does it matter? It costs 100 yen for six slices. Out of the 500 yen we pay her for breakfast, it would be approximately 15 yen. Are they so destitute that she feels the need to accuse me of taking her bread and depriving her of that entire 15 yen?
It's like I'm living at a bloody boarding house. If she's just going to host a student for the money, the least she could do is tell us that up front. There's no need to try to delude us into thinking she wants to be an actual "host family."X(

In other, less redundant news, I failed to study for a 漢字 (kanji) test today, yet I can't bring myself to care. I'm currently studying for my 文法 (grammar) test tomorrow, but it's so hot in my room that I'm staring blankly at my paper more than I'm actually studying. This is bad, because I made a bet with two other guys in my class, where if I have the lowest score of us three, I have to buy dinner for the other two. If I don't get the lowest though, I get a free dinner. I need to study ;_;
