Jen, I am totally going to answer your question to Valentine soon (especially considering you are the only one who asked anything), I promise!

So, I had a character dream last night, which is something that very rarely happens. Usually, if I remember my dreams at all, they are pretty mundane. "And then I made pancakes. And then we ate pancakes. And then we did the dishes." I had a dream last week that I got an e-mail from Scott because he had a gig on Wednesday and I e-mailed him back saying I had to work until six but I'd try to make it. I mean, that's the sort of thing that normally goes on in my head when I'm asleep.
But I had a character dream, in which Mirek and Gideon were at a jazz club that started off in New York and ended in Prague that was as boring as most of the stories about them are and it reminded me that they're actually supposed to be in Prague around now, but I'm so woefully behind on this universe that they will probably not get there for awhile.

::cough:: Anyway. I'm just posting this here for posterity, and because it links in to HWH and I'm trying to keep a hold on all the threads of that story.

If Mirek thinks it's strange that Jimmy seems a bit overzealous about religion, he doesn't say anything. Just because he can't remember anything about his own religious affiliation doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't have his own strong beliefs, and just because Jimmy's are intense doesn't mean he has any particular disdain for homosexuals. Even if he does, Mirek figures he's keeping it to himself, either out of respect for the unity of the house (possible, but not probable given his penchant for picking fights with everyone) or because he's afraid that the combined forces of Sydney, Gideon, and Mirek could beat him bloody (probable and very possible).
Either way, he thinks it's best to respect the illusion that they all agree with each other and keep the peace rather than bring it up. He naturally assumes that Jimmy sees the queerness around him and chooses to ignore it. How couldn't he, after all? Mirek and Gideon are very nearly joined at the hip and Sydney is not one to hold back her comments about the types of women she finds attractive.
He's surprised, then, to say the least, the morning that he and Karuka join Jimmy in the kitchen just as he's finishing his eggs.
"Good morning," they both say to him, politely, and Jimmy nods at them, eyes narrowed. He seems to be staring at Mirek in particular, and even though that makes him cold and nervous to his toes, he manages to ignore it as he fixes cereal for himself.
"Mirek, you got a bruise on your neck," Jimmy says eventually, and Mirek nearly spits his cereal out as he raises a hand quickly to his neck, face flushing scarlet.
"Karuka! I have been with you all morning, you felt no need to tell me this?" he snaps half-heartedly, once he manages to swallow right. He is going to KILL Gideon...
Karuka just smiles slyly at him and keeps eating her yogurt. "Sorry," she says, not looking sorry at all. "I thought it was cute."
Mirek rolls his eyes. Jimmy, however, is still staring.
"Didya fall or somethin'?" he asks, leaning forward and peering at Mirek's neck. "Or zip up your coat too hard?"
Both Mirek and Karuka stop what they're doing to look at him in surprise. Mirek's not sure if he's fooling around or actually serious. The fact that he's never seen Jimmy fool around makes the answer rather obvious.
"It is a hickey," he says slowly. "Not a--well, it is technically a bruise, but a bruise that comes from someone's mouth." He feels his ears going red again.
Jimmy stares at them for a moment and then says, "Well, Karuka, that's not very ladylike. Doin' that to him and all." Mirek is rather sure he's stepped into the bizarro universe. He glances at Karuka for confirmation and--yes, she's as stunned as he is.
"Um," Karuka says, "It wasn't me."
"It was Gideon," Mirek says. "Obviously. I mean, who else--"
"What?" Jimmy says, dropping his fork with a clatter. He looks stunned. Mirek can almost see the ?! hanging over his head. "Wha--why would he do somethin' like that to you?"
"I believe he meant it as a sign of affection," Mirek says. "He gets a little... carried away with his mouth." His lips curve into a smile that's only a little filthy. Karuka rolls her eyes, but Jimmy still looks stunned.
"You... let him? Kiss you?"
Mirek frowns. "I... yes. I tend to encourage it, actually."
"You... you're a bunch of queers!"
And with that, Jimmy jumps up from the table and runs from the kitchen, leaving Karuka and Mirek to stare at each other wondering what the hell had just happened.
