In my head, when I read fic, the characters are always the same age as I see them on the show (which is a horrible habit I need to break), so then, when I read a line like this: They don't talk much, but then, they never do. Sam keeps hold of his hand, and even though they are, in fact, old men inching ever closer to fifty, it makes Will smile fondly and fight off a blush. it both pleasantly surprises me, and makes the story that much better. :) I love how tenuous it all is - Sam&Will and Sam&Josh's friendship, the way Will might punch Josh's lights out if given half a chance.
But through it all there's this constant love that they have for each other, despite Josh and work and their own hangups, that is just so beautiful. :)
I keep forgetting exactly how much older everyone is now. I know that Sam is 47 when the first Iowa story starts, but I can't remember how old I arbitrarily decided he and Will were in canon, so I'm not sure how old Will is and... yeah. I really should have written that down. ::shifty eyes::
But I'm so glad that it works for you and that Sam and Will's love for each other comes through, even though it's never explicitly stated in the text. That was really what I was going for and I'm thrilled it comes through.
I'm going to try to work on both of these stories more tomorrow!
