Mm, this is a really intriguing snippet of this world. I'd love to know more about how they met in this world, if you ever return to it.

I'm pretty sure they met at a coffee shop. Charles was doing some recon on a guy and Erik was sitting alone at the best possible vantage spot. The place was full, so Charles asked if he could sit with Erik and found himself getting constantly distracted by how attractive Erik was. Erik was kind of covertly scoping Charles out as well and made a comment about how Charles was never going to get over his ex if he didn't stop spying on him in coffee shops. Which kind of threw Charles for a loop but he rolled with it and concocted a story about his failed relationship, etc. Eventually, he got what he needed to from his mark, but hung out at the coffeeshop for a while longer and got Erik's number.

He tells Erik he works for the research lab connected to his spy agency (idk if it's the CIA or what) because he DOES have a science background and it gives him a way to make it clear he can't ever really talk about work. But once a few years passed and they started seriously talking about marriage, Charles came clean about what he actually did.
