five things

Jan 24, 2015 23:46

1) We're supposed to get a million inches of snow this week. I'm already incredibly anxious about getting to work in it. It's a combination of our atrociously laid out driveway, driving in the snow, and my workplace's inability to close. I might just call out on Tuesday, if it comes down to it.

2) We just finished season five of Archer, which was Archer: Vice and it was pretty good! There are some times where the writing on this show just blows me away. HOW DO YOU GET TO BE THAT FUNNY??

3) So, I read the first book of The Raven Cycle about a year ago and, after putting The Dream Thieves on my library hold list in November when we were talking about them on the podcast, I read that one and Blue Lily, Lily Blue over the past three days. I have A LOT of feelings. About all of it. Mostly about Blue and Gansey. But in general just about everything and every one and their big dumb found family and their precious dumbass faces. I might do a whole post about this when I have more time/energy, but alas, tonight I need to go to bed.

4) Gosh, there are a lot of visits in the next couple months! I'm excited! This winter has been pretty rough (as they always are) with the work situation compounding everything. I'm looking forward to seeing people. I'm also looking forward to doing the Galentine's Day baskets. Guys, Galentine's Day will be on a weekend in 2016 and you better believe I'm going to be planning the brunch to end all brunches.

5) A meme! When you see this, share 3 random lines from 3 WIPs.

a. "I'm so mad at you," Charles says, but he sounds tired and broken and he's still rubbing Erik's chest, his nose is still pressed into Erik's hair. "I don't know why you do those things. I don't know why you can't just let it go."

Erik doesn't say anything. He can't. He lets it fill his head, lets Charles pick it out on his own. Charles sighs and sounds like he's ancient, like he's so far beyond his twenty years. Sometimes when Charles acts like he's smarter and older than Erik, Erik wants to strangle him. Right now, though, the sound of that sigh makes Erik sick to his stomach.

"I don't want you to get hurt," Charles whispers into the dark.

Charles and Erik have always had different priorities.

b. "You don't even know me?" Ms. Dane says. "After all that, thirteen years and you don't even recognize me?"

Erik does some quick math. Thirteen years was 1974, when he was on the run, before he came back to the school to lay low and ended up accidentally staying forever. Thirteen years was--

"Mom, what's going on?" Lorna asks, and Erik feels his stomach bottom out as all the pieces slip into place. Thirteen years was 1974. Thirteen years and nine months, give or take, was the summer of 1973 when he was on the run, on his own, broke, alone, and really fucking mad at Charles.

c. "And," Erik adds, "I guess at least Wanda won't accidentally end up pregnant."

Raven laughs.

"That's exactly what Sharon said when she found out Charles was gay," she says, and shoves Charles' shoulder.

"No," Charles says, "I believe her exact words were, 'At least he won't get that scholarship girl pregnant.'"

"Oh, Sharon," Raven says, shaking her head. "A WASP to the bitter end."

"As if I would go near you, slut that you were," Moira says.

"Excuse me," Charles says, aiming for indignant but stifling a laugh, "I was with exactly two boys before the accident, I'll have you know."

"Yeah," Moira says, mostly to Erik, "and he used the same line on both of them. 'Oh, I'm going off to college soon and I don't want to go to college a virgin!'" She flutters her eyelashes for effect, but Erik knows Charles well enough at this point to know it wasn't the eyelashes that did them in, probably, but his eyes themselves, big and blue and pleading, a pout on that red mouth, and, depending on the boy in question, either a seamlessly innocent or downright filthy glance. He can very easily see precocious, sixteen year old Charles flirting up a storm with anyone he thought might be interested. He still flirts that way with Erik, and occasionally unleashes a less potent version on waiters, clerks, baristas, people on the subway, and anyone else who crosses his path. Erik loves Charles, but he's not subtle, and it sounds like he never has been.

Okay, that was slightly more than three sentences. I DO WHAT I WANT.

And right now, I want to go to bed. So I'm going to do that.
