I just read the trope "It's for your own good" and I agree. I don't like it as well D: (I didn't read the rest as I supposed it was spoilery and I didn't watch the movie yet).

What I don't like about it it's this situation:

Couple member #1 has to leave #2 "because with me you will be unhappy/bad things will happen to you/you can die". So either #1 tells the truth or lies and #1 leaves making #2 unhappy "but will #2 understand over time, it was for his/her own good".

I despise it for lot of reasons (lying, thinking and not talking things that can be FIXED. BY. TALKING.) but the top one: who does #1 think he/she is to make such a decision by his/her own and without #2 opinion!

And in the case of lying: seriously. If #2 and #1 are so in love /know each other so well, this "suddenly I don't like you" smells from the other side of the universe.

This trope must be incredibly well done for me to not frwon upon. As I said the other day to my husband: "Oh my God, put me in these situations (as the character) to continue the story and you'll got no story at all :P"

LOL, sorry for the rant! ^^;

Yeah, it was SLIGHTLY different because it wasn't a romantic situation, but the basics are all there and, like you, I hate it SO MUCH. My standard is, if a five minute conversation can solve your problem, it is not good enough to make up the plot of a story.

Please don't apologize for the rant! I'm glad other people agree with me ;D
