Here are some voting stories.
1) After waking up from a Romney-centered nightmare at 5:30, I ended up puttering around waiting to vote at 7am when the polls opened. My polling place is literally next door--it's the school next to our house, the one we want to turn into a convenience store so we can make a snack zipline. The last time I voted there, the (very short) line went up the steps, towards our house. I assumed that it would be the same today, so when I glanced out my window and didn't see a line coming towards our house, I figured I could chill until 6:55 and then walk out.
Well, for this election, the line was going down the over side of the street. And going. And going. And going. Whoops.
2) All told, I only had to wait about 30 minutes. Once I got inside, though, my name wasn't in the book.
Now, you have to understand, I have voted in every election since I moved to this state, including primaries and local elections. My wonderful roommate, who didn't change her voter registration to our new place until this election, was in that book and I was not. Before I could panic, though, they flipped to a second part of the book and there was my name in the back.
As it turns out, since I didn't send in my 2012 town census, my status had been changed from "active" to "inactive" despite my stellar voter record of.....actually voting. It was a super easy thing to fix--I just had to sign an affidavit that I lived at my address and my name was my name and then I got to go vote as normal. But I do find it incredibly hilarious and I will never forget to send in that goddamn census again.

If you, like me, are trying to distract yourself from today, why don't you
go ask me more questions? I'm going to start answering the ones I've already gotten and more would be....helpful.
