Hello, internet. I hope you're safe and dry.

We're safe and dry here in Cardigan Central. We never lost power (yet. knock on wood.) and our biggest complaint was the noise from our upstairs neighbors, who replaced the couple (?) who were near silent, but owned (what sounded like, from down here) an obese speed-addicted cat. The new Upstairs is two girls who are (I'm guessing) college students who leave their phones on the floor when they're on vibrate (meaning it sounds like their phones are vibrating in our apartment), move things around in the middle of the night, and semi-frequently invite loud guests over, whom they stay up talking to until way past bedtime.

I miss the cat.

ANYWAY. We stocked up on bread on the way home from quatredeathlady's party and filled all our pitchers/containers with water, but it's been pretty chill. I did secret_mutant matching and we watched some shitty horror movies and some more Weeds. I'm about half a scene away from finishing my Halloween story, but I'm further procrastinating from that by writing this entry. Whoops. Delayed opening for work tomorrow, but I should still get into bed soon.

My family is without power, but seems to be doing okay. The basement and creek haven't flooded yet (happens pretty frequently in these big storms), and Brendan is still tweeting obnoxious things, so. Looking at pictures of New York is making my heart hurt, so I'm trying to stop :\

Nicole's party was pretty great! It was SO MUCH LESS STRESSFUL than years past. I ended up making about 2/3 of the food on-site Saturday afternoon and I was totally zen about it. If it hadn't taken a break to write/internet, I would have been in costume, chilling when the first guests arrived. As it was, I was finishing up one last thing and half-dressed, so no big deal. I'll post some pictures once I upload them, but the cakes looked GREAT, if I do say so myself :D

My costume was funny, if niche. I went as Sexy Abed as Inspector Spacetime in a gold lamé mini-skirt, a white tank top, a bowler hat, a short cream colored ladies' robe, and an orange patterned scarf tied around my neck. There's only one picture, but I might reprise the costume at some point. Becca was Rosie the Riveter, and pretty much everyone else just wore Halloween pajamas.

EXCEPT CORA. OMG. Cora is Nicole's friends' almost-two-year-old daughter. She was dressed as a lion and provided the chief entertainment for me and Becca. She was hilarious. She kept picking up the plastic severed limbs around the apartment and carrying them around. HYSTERICAL.

We watched Pontypool, Pet Semetary, The Woman in Black (I think?), and The Last Exorcism. Fun times all around! I was pleasantly tipsy-bordering-on-drunk all night, as chronicled in my text messages to liveonthesun and a handful of tweets, the most obvious being a very excited exclamation over McAvoy pictures that I sent to pearl_o ("!!!!! !!?!!!!!??bbnz") that was immediately followed by "hi sorry drinking."

It was a good party. I feel like it was super low stress for EVERYONE, which is nice, because various things in recent years have cropped up making it stressful. This was good, though.

We made it home mostly before the storm yesterday, so yay! And we both had today off, so yes.

Okay, going to bed, now. Or to work on the last scene of this fic. I still want to post it on Wednesday!
