Hello, internet. Today I saw Prometheus. I was going to wait and see it with chiasmus, but she's away this weekend and all the people talking about it had me too intrigued to wait. (Though I will see it again with her, probably ( Read more... )

I haven't read a lot of it because I had a feeling, given he was an android working for Weyland, that he was going to be evil, but there was a lot of fic prior to the movie and the few that I skimmed seemed to be of the "David 8 yearns to be a real boy" persuasion.

I totally loved that he was an asshole. Like, there seemed to be this constant dichotomy to him where part of him clearly wanted to be respected like a human, but the rest of him totally looked down his nose at humans. The general bitchiness with which he delivered his lines was perfect and I (begrudgingly) kind of want to see a movie/read a fic about the two years David spent on his own, cultivating his disdain for humanity, watching Lawrence of Arabia, and examining his directives and coming to his own conclusions about what he wants and what he thinks is best. (Similarly, I also want an alternate ending with Shaw, Vickers, and David. Totally loved David's scheming at the end. "There are more ships out there. You need me. Come get me and I'll fly us both out of here."

And yeah, I assumed she was his bio daughter? I hadn't even thought about her being an android, but now that you've mentioned it, that would be an interesting angle as well. I'll probably be seeing it again with my friend when she gets back into town and I'll have to investigate further XD

I hope Meredith's alive! I guess she could have survived if Shaw did (and esp. if she's an android) and I like that her status is ambiguous. I sort of enjoy the notion that she is human but she cultivated an android-like demeanor as a response to dad liking David better. When Janek asked her if she was a robot, she thought it was an enormous compliment.

And yeah, totally, more of David watching movies and eavesdropping on people's memories.
