end of year memes, part one!

Dec 30, 2011 18:45

WRITING CHAT THINGY. TONIGHT. 7PM EST. THAT'S 15 MINUTES FROM NOW. BE HERE OR BE...A DEER. OR SOMETHING.

***

So, I'm holding off on the end-of-year writing meme until tomorrow because I just have to write like, 4k more to hit 200k in XMFC and....I want to do that. So.

In the mean time, here are the other two end of year memes!

1. Your main fandom of the year?
Doctor Who and X-Men: First Class. Who is one of those things that I've loved since I started watching it and I'm super into, but rarely feel the need to write/read fic about. Canton changed that, clearly. As for XMFC...I don't even know. I mean, I've shipped Chuck and Magneto since I was a kid, but something about these movies and these performances came out of nowhere and beat me over the head with the affection bat. Or something. I STILL DON'T GET IT. BUT I DON'T QUESTION IT. I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH, YOU GUYS.

2. Your favorite film watched this year?
X-Men: First Class ;D The Muppets. I also really loved Arthur Christmas. Obvs.

3. Your favorite book read this year?
Hm. The new Skulduggery Pleasant. The new Gail Carriger. Um, A Monster Calls was good. I'm having trouble remembering what else I read this year.

4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
According to Last.fm, I listened to Dar Williams, Paul Simon, The Weepies, and Allie Moss the most this year.

Song-specific, the top three were "Oats We Sow" by Gregory and the Hawk, "If I Wrote You" by Dar Williams, and "All Good Things" by the Weepies.

5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
We watched a lot of teevee this year! Without actualfax teevee, we watched a lot of shit straight through on Netflix. Doctor Who is at the top of the list--I continue to love Moffat's stuff. I also discovered Parks and Rec and Archer and Downton Abbey this year. And HOARDERS, of course!

6. Your favorite online fandom community of the year?
I started using AO3 a lot more this year! I'd had some issues with it when it first went live a few years ago, but, with XMFC, I got into the swing of using it regularly and I really enjoy it overall.

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I think I can safely answer this one with XMFC.

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I reached the end of my rope with Torchwood. Between the new series, the vitriol in the fandom, the attitudes of everyone...it was making me so miserable and upset and it was ridiculous. I made some good friends from the misery, but I still would rather have avoided it all together.

9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Teevee boyfriend was Canton Everett Delaware III. Fandom boyfriend was Charles Xavier.

10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Teevee girlfriend was Amy Pond and the entire female cast of Parks and Rec. Fandom girlfriend was Moira MacTaggert.

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Meeting Mark Sheppard. Hands down.

12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Torchwood was just... a cesspool this year :( I got a bit back into SGA and was able to put the bitterness behind as I showed mcwonthelottery the show for the first time. I've been missing TWW lately, but hopefully there will be a re-watch starting at Cardigan Central in the new year, so yay!

13. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
Hm...I don't know! I can't think of anything specifically.

14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Visiting people, hopefully! Dragon*Con! New Who! The Avengers movie! Um...the new Alien movie looks interesting? Visiting people and writing fic and D*Con and Who are the big ones, though.

What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
FULL TIME GROWN-UP JOB, BITCHES!

Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year I resolved to get a job, finish a novel, see more of my friends, and chill out. I, uh. did not chill out? Or finish a novel. But I got a job and I saw lots of people and I wrote a zillion words of XMFC fic.

Here are my resolutions for next year:
• Finish at least 75% of the stuff I start.
• Continue to see more of my friends
• Try not to let stupid shit get to me as much
• Keep my eyes open for jobs actually in my field.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not unless Diana from work gave birth in the past twenty-four hours.

Did anyone close to you die?
My great-aunt died on like, New Years' Eve in 2010. So I didn't count her in last year's meme. But yeah. That's about it.

What countries did you visit?
Just the US.

What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
I'm... okay! Now that I have a job. I'd like... see people more? Or something. I don't know. I'm good!

What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Visiting Casa de Fangirl! Dragon*Con! Starting work! Haha, I'll always remember December 8 as the day the fucking big bang was done.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
GETTING A JOB.

What was your biggest failure?
I was so fucking miserable for so much of this year, guys. So miserable and anxious and... yes.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just generally depressed. I was sick the week before Nicole's party, but aside from that, I was lucky enough not to get the plague while I didn't have insurance.

What was the best thing you bought?
D*Con accouterments, my phone, books... KLAPPAR HAJ...um... food? Eight million tickets to XMFC?

Whose behavior merited celebration?
My awesome, awesome friends.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Some jerks on the internet. Some jerks in the government. Some jerks in the country projecting their crazy ass radical opinions on the rest of the country.

Where did most of your money go?
Grown-up type stuff (rent, utilities, groceries), books, travel.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Con! Job! New Who! Dar shows! McAvoy's face!

What song will always remind you of 2010?
Pretty much anything on my extensive Charles/Erik mix, probably. "Oats We Sow" by Gregory and the Hawk.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier! It took a while to get here, but I managed!
b) thinner or fatter? Haha, fatter. I just got back from the doctor's. Since I've had a job, I've gained back all the weight I lost while I was unemployed. I should work on that in 2012.
c) richer or poorer? Richer. Oh my god. It's insane how far a living wage goes, man.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. Baking. Sleeping. Hanging out with peeps. Having a job?

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being depressed. Not having a job.

Did you fall in love in 2011?
With books, characters, food, presents, teevee shows, and the occasional inanimate object. Not with a lady, no.

What was your favorite TV program?
Parks and Rec, Doctor Who, Archer, Hoarders, several others.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hm. Not hate, no. There are people I'm not pleased with.

What was the best book you read?
The new Skulduggery Pleasant was amazing, as always!

What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don't know that there was a new artist I discovered this year? David Ford, maybe? Mostly I stuck with the usual suspects. A lot of new stuff thanks to extensive Charles/Erik playlist that brilligspoons, momebie and I passed back and forth this summer.

What did you want and get?
Joooooooooob! Yaaaaaay! :D :D :D

What did you want and not get?
Nothing important enough to stick in my mind.

What was your favorite film of this year?
X-Men: First Class.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 26. Becca, Joni, Rachael, and a friend of mine from my old job had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Peace of mind?

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Um, slightly disheveled secretary? Pencil skirts, waistcoats, blouses. I didn't wear pants if I could help it.

What kept you sane?
You guys ♥ mcwonthelottery specifically. Also Mary&Erin, Margaret, Kelsey, Ivy, Sherri, and many, many more of you. XMFC as a film, a fandom, and a distraction seriously, SERIOUSLY helped me hobble through a really difficult time in my life.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Canton Everett Delaware III and Mark Sheppard, Charles Xavier and James McAvoy (and Anne-Marie Duff), Rose Byrne, Amy Pond and Karen Gillan.

What political issue stirred you the most?
I've tried to stay out of politics this year, for the sake of my blood pressure/not killing myself.

Who did you miss?
Pretty much everyone when they are not right next to me. Everyone I left behind when I moved. Everyone here before I moved. Everyone I hung out with at con and then had to leave behind. The usual.

Who was the best new person you met?
I met SO MANY NEW PEOPLE THIS YEAR. New fandoms will do that to you! In person, I met littledust and eldarwannabe and pressdbtwnpages! On the internet--dear god, so many of you! SO MANY! It's lovely. This fandom, guys. I want to hug it ♥ But sirona_gs and pearl_o and afrocurl and shaliara and ilovetakahana and SO MANY OF YOU. Thanks, dudes. ♥

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
I was gonna says, "PICK UP THAT DRINK," but apparently that's what I learned in 2010.

OH MAN, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT WE LEARNEDIN 2011? WE LEARNED THAT THE ONLY THING WE KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT STONEHENGE IS A TERRAFORMING DEVICE LEFT BEHIND BY BEINGS FROM ANOTHER TIME.

Quote a song that sums up your year:
It's bad to do what's easy
just cause it's easy
and I wanna do what please me
but I can't
--Gregory and the Hawk, "Oats We Sow"

(Which doesn't really sum up the year, but it's been in my head a lot, so.....yes.)
