oh, torchwood burn book...

Oct 05, 2009 20:06

So, people who aren't my friends have commented on my stupid epic Torchwood story, thus relieving the nervous fidgeting I've been doing since I posted it to some communities this morning. Yay! I don't fail the internet!

But now I want to write MORE Gwen + Ianto stories. Like the one I started at Dragon*Con where Jack is out of town and Gwen and Ianto have to solve a case on their own and they're like detectives, but with aliens and have to keep answering Jack's nervous calls by lying about what they're doing. I want Ianto to wear a fedora. And Gwen to wear a hot dress.

Yes, by the way, at some point between deciding to write a stupid, 1000 word story about the Torchwood burn book and completing what turned out to be a 19000 word story about Gwen and Ianto, I became totally enamored with Gwen. Watching Gwen on teevee still frequently makes me wince, but the Gwen who lives in my head is second only to Ianto in my affections. I swear, after writing this story I could keep going for another 20000 words, do all of S2 as the Gwen+Ianto show and then write a trillion post-S2 adventures for the two of them.

Jack and Rhys could come too, I guess.

Anyway, what was I talking about? Was it how awesome Katy Pfaffl is? It should be, if it wasn't.

Katy's doing a residency at The Living Room this month. Every Tuesday she has a show there. I am so psyched. For one, I haven't heard her since... gosh, what, June? July? For another, we are getting remarkably close to NEW ALBUM. But mostly? OMGSTRINGS.

Each show has a different format. Next Tuesday, as in a week from tomorrow, her show is going to be just her + strings. There is not a better way to hear Katy play, guys. Don't get me wrong, I love the full band, I love hearing her solo, and I loved seeing her and Scott play duo. But Katy with strings? It's like a frigging religious experience, guys. It makes my heart swell in the best possible way.

That's all to say, if you're free on Tuesday the 13th and in the NYC-metro area, you should come with us to this show. It will be amazing, I promise. If you are free any other Tuesday this month you should come to one of her other shows, too, but if you can only choose one, choose Tuesday the 13th.

Have I talked about my parents' NCIS hats here yet? I know I've mentioned it on Twitter.

My parents have gotten their friend Chris addicted to NCIS, and as a present while I was in Boston with suchthefangirl and co, she got them NCIS hats.

My dad likes to wear his while watching the show.

But really, it's not just that he likes to wear it. Oh no. That would be too simple. My dad decides, while wearing his NCIS hat, that he will only answer to the name of the NCIS agent he is "being" that particular night.

"Dad," I'll say.

Silence.

"Dad?"

"Call me Tony," he'll say. "Tonight I'm DiNozzo."

Once I pick myself off the floor from laughing hysterically, I've frequently forgotten what I needed to ask him in the first place.

For the month of October, I'm trying to read one new (to me) horror novel a week and watch one new (to me) horror movie. The first novel is The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancy, solely because it caught my eye while I was shelving last month and it's handy. If anyone has suggestions for other movies/books (especially older movies--I'm pretty well-versed in anything released after 1977 or so), I would welcome them. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is already on the movie list because, believe it or not, I've never seen it. onmyshore, I've also added the book you recced on your journal the other day. But anything else is fair game. Lay it on me, flist! You know how much I love horror.

torchwood, katy and scott, quotes, family stuff, ncis is the new law and order, horror movies
