i'm so nit-picky
Ridiculous thing that just took me totally out of a fic: Someone using a token as subway fare in NYC. The subways haven't taken tokens since at LEAST 2004 if not earlier and they stopped being the most common form of fare before that!
Actually, I just checked Wiki to see if that information was available to people from outside of NYC and it totally is. I also learned that the token was officially phased out on May 3, 2003 for the subways and that every station had MetroCard vending machines by early 1999. THE MORE YOU KNOW.
So, in conclusion, the subway token is obsolete and MetroCards are sexier anyway.
