So, yesterday Wednesday,
_morning_glow was here! And we went to Colbert!
But first off, she gave me my (belated) birthday presents + presents from Italy&Hawaii! And they were AWESOME. Most of them involved dinosaurs! One of them involved a scorpion! It's glass and it lives on my computer speakers now. Its name is Robert Sean Leonard, in honor of Scorpion Assault on Precinct 13: The Muiscal in which RSL plays the main scorpion.
My favourite, though, has become the "Dig-it-Out" dinosaur! Because the instructions are in, among other languages, German! German is the main language, though. English is third. But the funniest thing about German being the first language is that Tara bought it in Italy. I don't think Italian is on it anywhere.
My BIRTHDAY PRESENT, however, was
THIS SHIRT. AKA the best shirt ever! NEVER FORGET.
Anyway.
I accidently didn't look at the clock, um, ever, so we ended up leaving for the train a half hour after I wanted to be on the train. Which would have been fine, 'cause I have us about that much leeway. Except then, once again, there were no parking spots at the White Plains train station. So we had to drive to Hartsdale. Again. We ended up being on a train that left over an hour after I wanted to leave. Not cool ;-;
I kept freaking out that there would be no seats by the time we got there. This was tragic, because although Tara and I have seen the show about a dozen times between the two of us, we were supposed to be holding spots for the girl I got the tickets from. I was so afraid that we wouldn't make it. I was seriously freaking out. But... we made it! And all was well!
So, we met up with Illyse and her friend and waited to go in while playing Scrambled States and Phase 10. Theeeen we finally got into the green room and exchanged bad retail stories, which became the inspiration for
Thursday's advent. It was pretty chill.
Got in, etc etc. The warm up guy was Pete Dominick, who I've seen before and always think is hilarious. The audience was less enthused with him this time than they have been in the past, but I thought he was consistantly funny.
Stephen came out for questions. I didn't get called, but Illyse did. She asked if he had prepared an Emmy speech and if he was going to give it when he won this year. He laughed and said he honestly didn't think he was going to win. Because Barry Manilow had his hip replaced, he was a shoe-in, and he also needed the parts of his Emmy to help replace his hip.
A couple other questions, but the good one was about the King of Glory dance, and I will share that one with you. The last time I was at the Report with my family, there was a girl in the audience who asked him to do the King of Glory Dance because she was going away to Italy with no access to anything Colbert for a few months. He obliged and it was kind of adorable. So,tonight, another girl asked if he choreographed it himself. He laughed and explained to the rest of the audeince (as I will explain for those of you who've no idea what I'm talking about) that at the end of "this teevee show I was on" (Strangers with Candy) they would always have a dance sequence over the credits. My approximation of his approximation of what happened that week is as follows:
"Oh, damn... we forgot to do a dance number. Crap. Um... okay. Hm. How much tape do we have left? Really? Huh. Okay. So, um, I've got it. Just, uh, roll it. And tell me when to stop."
He then proceeded to replicate the dance, which is always worth a chuckle, and I've gotta say, for something he made up on the spot, he's got it down pretty good.
So that was pretty great. Shortly thereafter the show started, pretty much like it was on teevee, save for two things (that come to mind):
1. After the segment with Doris Kearns Goodwin, (which was filmmed out of order) Stephen had her stay and sign a copy of the book for him. Which I thought was probably the cutest thing I've ever seen. Oh, out-of-character Stephen. You're so adorable!
ALSO, she wrote a book about Lincoln's cabinet and was HILARIOUS if you didn't see the show. And when she mentioned Salmon P. Chase I pretty much flipped out. I had previously warned
_morning_glow that I was going to flip out if she mentioned him. And then she did. And I didn't shutup about it for like, an hour.
Also, Stephen said something that related to one of our inside jokes? I can't remember what, except that we were excited because basically every time we've gone he's referred to at least one of them. TARA HELP.
2. During the "War on Christmas" segment with the Christmas trees in the Sea-Tac airport, he screwed up slightly two or three times and then completely went to town when he was listing the types of Christmas trees he wants to plant in Israel (I'm sure anyone who doesn't know what The Colbert Report is all about is basically gasping in horror at this point XD). He tried to recover but couldn't, and ended up just slumped over on the desk. It was hilarious.
They backed the tape up and started again from the quote he read (basically from the first minor screw-up he made), and while they were waiting to give it another go, they played "Tubthumper" by Chumbawumba ("I get knocked down / but I get up again...") and I basically died of giggles.
Oh, Colbert Report.
Anyway, the show went on as usual after that. We all left and Tara and I caught the train back to Hartsdale and then drove home. I got a $15 ticket because my meter ran out XP Things like that don't happen in the White Plains garage except for that time that it did.

Now I am in
quatredeathlady's room, waiting for her to finish closing the building so I can drive us both home! It will be exciting, as I haven't seen her in TWO HUNDRED MILLION YEARS (or so it feels like), so I'm sure we'll have lots to talk about.
(Also, her keyboard is super small and hard to type on! It's crazy! Also, it lights up! CRAZY I TELL YOU.)
