Little Things
MA/They - Yara/Yamamoto

This has been going on for several years, but the little things are what make Yara smile.Aka, this is probably the sappiest thing I've written in ages because dammit it's Valentine's.

Late, shhh, but at least it's still Valentine's somewhere. So Happy Valentine's Day ♥

It’s a sort of tradition they’ve had going on several years now, simply adapting them around current locations and projects. It starts with a small piece of chocolate, wrapped with silver ribbon, placed on Yamamoto’s pillow as he slumbers. It starts with a truffle in gold wrapping on top of the coffee machine for when Yara’s awake.

It’s not just chocolate, but anything they can think of. Notes, phone charms, anything else that could get a ribbon tied around it. One time Yamamoto had woken up to find a pair of silver shoelaces around his iPhone. Upon inspection, he discovered that Yara had added music, sorted in to music he loved to dance to and music that made him think of Yamamoto. It had been Yamamoto’s favorite. He still had the shoelaces on a pair of sneakers.

“Morning,” Yara greeted when Yamamoto rolled out of bed. Yamamoto yawned, shuffling closer, smiling when he noted the ribbon atop the counter, truffle nowhere in sight.

“You could have woken me up,” Yamamoto said, leaning over to drop a kiss on Yara’s cheek before stealing his coffee.

Laughing, Yara took the coffee back. “Nothing wrong with letting you sleep in a few more minutes.” Yamamoto wasn’t as good at pacing himself and Yara couldn’t help but worry, that protective, older-brother-but-not-really-because-that’d-be-creepy-now side of his kicking in. Today was for the little things he could do to keep Yamamoto from doing stupid things.

Yamamoto gave him that smile, the kind that wasn’t so blazingly bright, but simmered with feeling, softening his eyes. Yara had to admit that it was one of his favorite smiles.

It was still chilly out when they headed off to work, but the sun was come out and it was one of those days. Those days when everything felt right and you weren’t really floating, but you might as well have been. Yamamoto was sure that was going to change, they did have two shows that day, but he was practically skipping as they headed to the station.

“Oh right,” he said, turning around so he could walk backwards, almost side by side with Yara. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Yaracchi!”

Yara’s eyes widened in comic disbelief. “What do you mean, it’s Valentine’s already! I don’t have a Valentine this year.”

“Ass.”

“That’s a pretty cute pout there, kitten~.”

When they got to the theater, there was a keychain with a rubber chicken waiting next to Yara’s waterbottle with a note that went ‘Because sometimes you forget things ♥ ’. Yamamoto got a smack over the head for that one, along with a long, genuine Yara laugh.

That was how it went for the rest of the day, as it had before. They littered the backstage with gold and silver, even bringing others in on it because that made it easier. Tatsumi mournfully handed over their respective gifts between the first and second show. “It’s not fair, okay,” he complained. “I can smell them. You could share or something.”

“No, I hate you,” Yara said, sticking his tongue out as he opened his chocolate, popping it into his mouth right then, just for a touch of added cruelty.

Sometimes they just find notes without an attached present, notes that only they would get. Just a few words and Yamamoto would laugh, slipping the note penned in silver into his pocket. Nobody tried to look at these anymore, at least not on purpose. Hayashi had stumbled over one two years ago, one that had something to do with what exactly Yamamoto thought about with Chura wrapped around a naked Yara. Nobody spoke of this incident.

Some are meant to be found - like the one stuck in Yara’s boot, a set of matching phone charms. Yara knows where they’re both going. But some other ones are meant to be looked for.

That was why he waited until after the last show to hunt out Yamamoto’s large black bag. It’s under Yara’s leather jacket - the same one Yamamoto had used as a pillow between shows - and it takes a bit of digging to find what he’d been looking for, a misshapen, gold-wrapped package.

And he was glad to have opened it alone, when along with a handful of candies fallen into his lap, there were several condoms as well.

“Well, you’re subtle,” he said, when Yamamoto came back to get changed.

Grinning, Yamamoto crowded into his space, Yara shifting to make room for him to settle half on his lap, half draped on Yara’s shoulders. “Nothing wrong with wanting something and making sure you get it. You, me, dinner, dancing… Right?”

Laughing, Yara cupped Yamamoto’s face, kissing him like he’d wanted to kiss him all day but hadn’t been able to.

“I love you,” Yamamoto vowed against his lips, all sweetness and desire and all Yara’s. And maybe that was a little thing too, those words, but the little things were what mattered, and Yara was more for action than words, but sometimes words, even little ones, were to be said.

“Love you too.”
