[Snibble] System reboot
Title: System Reboot

A slaughtered attempt at cyberpunk that's been festering in my mind for months. Incomplete, obviously, and unsupported. Related to this drabble. The two instances are from different parts in the timeline.
“Yuya’s the best slicer I’ve ever seen, and I’ve had some really good partners before,” Hikaru told him as he glanced over at where his companion was fooling around with the small digi-dog; affectionately named Juno.
“He just doesn’t seem like… you know?” Yabu bit his lip.
Hikaru shrugged. “I gave up on trying to figure out how it works… He doesn’t even really code, he just overrides as soon as he enters the system. It’s really a sight, you should watch him get rid of the watchmen. He turns it into an art.”

Yuya was staring down at his feet like an errant puppy. “The system can’t catch me… because I am the system.”
When he looked up again, his eyes were the dreaded metallic belonging to a child of Medea .
Kouta jerked back out of habit, even if he knew there was no way to be infected in the real world. “Oh my god.”
“Please,” Yuya whispered. “Don’t tell the others…”
“You’re fucking what?” Kouta hissed, staring into those alien eyes. It unnerved him. He’d seen those eyes so many times, but he’d never seen them convey so much emotion as Yuya gazed at him. “You’re one of them.”
“No!” Yuya exclaimed, looking horrified.
“You sure?” Kouta rounded on him, eyes ablaze. “Maybe that’s why we have them on our heels ever time we enter the system. Maybe you’re just leading them on, dropping a breadcrumb trail for them to follow.”
“Hansel and Gretel… were lost because they couldn’t find the trail of crumbs,” Yuya whispered, looking away again.
“The hell I care!” Kouta exploded. “You’ve fucking been one of them and you’ve just been running along, thinking that we’d never notice it? What, are they coming now to get us? Terminate us in the real world, since they can’t wipe our minds?”
“Kou, you know I’d never-“ Yuya choked out, but Kouta cut him off.
“I don’t know anything anymore,” He snarled. “I used to think I knew you. I used to think that there was something there. But now? God, what the fuck are you, even.”
There was a pause and then Takaki raised his head, looking almost defiant as he met Yabu’s gaze. “I don’t care if you don’t believe me. But I never betrayed any of you.”
