Mulder thinks aliens abducted his sister, so now his life is dedicated to finding aliens. You would think it would be finding his sister.
Scully does not think there are aliens, very much like Spock, except Scully would not think there was a Spock because Spock is an alien. She would feel sad for Mulder's manpain, except that she also likes to repress emotion like Spock. This is why Mulder-might-love-Scully and Scully-might-love-Mulder, but YOU NEVER FIND OUT.
The time is very often 10:37, the day of Mulder's sister's disappearance. At first, Mulder thought she disappeared when she was eight, and it was on his birthday, but later that changed. In fact most things change, because Mulder isn't very good at fact-checking. Or else facts aren't very good at staying facts.
The government is trying to cover up the fact that there are aliens. There's an informant named deep-throat, but he was too old or boring or something, so Mulder and Scully find a new source named Kyrek. Or Kurchuck. Kyrek is either an alien or a robot or a government agent; no one's really sure, but Scully does not think he is from Krypton, because Scully does not believe in Krypton. Whether Mulder believes he's from Krypton or not, Kyrek and Mulder don't get it on, but in exactly the same way that Mulder and Scully don't get it on, wink wink.
Eventually, Mulder gets abducted by aliens, or gives up, or anyway leaves. Scully sticks around and has his baby. Then she Googles "stem cell research" in the movie, and it turns out that her and Mulder were getting it on all along.

And then there really are aliens.
