Alan was just finishing up for the night when he heard the knock on the door.

He was not entirely surprised to see Felicity on the other side.

"Hey, Lis," he said. She didn't reply, merely stormed inside and straight into the kitchen. Alan was impressed. He and Danny had been living here for two months and he still sometimes got lost trying to find his way around. "Got something on your mind?" he asked when he caught up with her, just in time to see her wrestle the cork out of a bottle of wine.

"That ignorant, arrogant, condescending, redneck, sleezebag woman!" Felicity snapped.

"Ah," Alan replied, getting a glass down from the cabinet for her. "I should have figured. I slipped Danny a sleeping pill about halfway through the debate."

Felicity opened her mouth to respond and then snapped it shut, looking contemplative. "That's... questionably moral."

"I know," Alan said. "Are you okay?"

Like he had flipped a switch, she went back to be outraged. "No," she spat. "No, I am not okay. I am not okay with John McCain--with the entire Republican party--I am not okay with half the COUNTRY being so BACKWARD as to think that just because this idiot is a woman, that she's all women. That... that this sleezy, moronic hillbilly from Alaska is on the same level as Hillary Clinton and because I have a vagina I should vote for her! This woman who claims to be a woman--claims to be a feminist!--and yet charges rape victims for their rape kits? And wants to overturn Roe? And demolish sex education as we know it? How could anyone--how far back in the DARK AGES are we that someone thinks this woman is a progressive choice just because she is a woman?"

Felicity was red in the face and breathing hard and Alan was slightly concerned for the saftey of his wine glass. He was slightly more concerned with Felicity's safety.

"Honey, do you want to sit down?" he asked, holding out a hand. She took it wordlessly and followed him to the dining room, taking a seat at the table.

"I'm just so... furious, Alan."

"I know, Lis," he said, stroking the back of her hand, "but not everyone thinks this way. The snap polls have Biden winning handily and there are always going to be backwards people who think silly things working in politics."

"I know," she said. "I know! But normally their stage isn't so..." She gestured futilely. "National." She sighed and returned to her wine, taking human sips, her breathing returning to normal. "Do you know why I'm an only child?" she finally asked.

"No," Alan said.

"My mother had a botched abortion when she was a teenager. I was a miracle baby--my mother shouldn't have been able to carry a child to term at all, but I was only a month premature and a c-section and everything was okay, but that was it for them. The pregnancy practically destroyed my mom's insides. She said that when Roe was passed she cried because she knew I'd never have to go through the same thing." She glanced up at Alan. "It will be severely fucked up if my DAUGHTER has to go through the same thing."

"She won't," Alan assured her. "I swear, Felicity, she won't. But why don't you go in and see her? Stay here tonight. You can drive back to Centennial tomorrow. Or, hey, take the day off and spend it with Kira. I could call Rose and give her the day off."

I think I want to be Felicity when I grow up, too.
