Traveling Altars

Dec 06, 2009 01:29

This is an entry I just did for pimp_my_altar and a fellow member suggested I post it at this community as well. I hope you enjoy it.

My home is comprised of many different altars. I have my working altar, my goddess dedicated altar, my altar to deceased furkid, my altar to deceased father.....you name it, somewhere in my house are little erected sacred spaces.

However, not all of them are stationary.

I present to you my little traveling

Every year I participate in the lunacy of NaNoWriMo. One of my friends and I got together and made ourselves some Writer's Altars out of used Altoid Tins a few years back. She showed me how to add the fimo clay, the fabric, and even use E-6000 for the bulkier items. So, I made this in a Plot Pirate theme (her's was Ninja). Throughout the month of November I would attend local write-ins and this altar always came with so it could be propped up by my laptop. :)

But, wait! That's not all. After I cut my teeth on the Writer's Altar, I went back and made a Have Altar Will Travel for whenever I go on hikes or camping or to festivals.

The outside of my HAWT tin (LOL! Okay, that abbreviation wasn't even planned. I apologize for the dorkiness) is basic fimo clay and pearlized dust one can get at any craft store.

The inside where my totem and the elements are represented and honored. The feather blocks it, but on the right side is a small bottle filled with lavender seeds and the fabric is color coordinated to rep the directions/elements.

Thank you for letting me share.

EDIT: A few have mentioned what a cool idea this is. Well, I'm just passing on the Enabling. LOL! My dear friend innowen is the crafty woman to blame for passing it on to me in the first place! You may check out her creations for inspiration HERE. As you can see, she's been doing this a lot longer than I. Enjoy!
