Vacations and Impatience

Last week mom and I went on our trip to Cancun. It was relatively short, compared to the past two years, but we still had fun. Unfortunately, we were rained in for the first couple of days. The storms came and went, but we got a lot done. I finally got to see the ruins o Chichen Itza. After we left the ruins, the bus stopped at this huge cenote called Ik Kil hat I got to swim in, which is basically this giant, underground natural spring. There was a platform about twenty feet up that people were diving off of. You can see the platform off to the left i this image. The cenote is 150 feet deep, so I dove twice and was rather proud of that. I figured I'd probably never get that opportunity again and didn't want to waste it. The water was amazing and looking up at the roots and greenery was so peaceful.

The rest of the trip was spent shopping, seeing my old friend David and his band perform, and drinking. Due to the rain, I took about a third of the amount of photos I generally take, but a big part of that had to do with the fact that I've seen it all for two years now. There wasn't much else I could take photos of that I hadn't already done, so the majority are either of the hotel or from Chichen Itza.

Here's the link to my photo album of the trip.

It was a really good bonding experience, I learned a lot about my mom that I'd never known. For example, the war in El Salvador was so bad that, when she was a kid, her and her family spent many nights sleeping on the floor to avoid random bullets. When she was 14 she was on the bus and had an M16 aimed at her stomach. She moved out here when she was 16 and graduated from high school in two years. I gained a new perspective of my mom, and I'm really proud of how well she's doing for herself

So now that our trip is over, the major events I had been looking forward to have passed and now I'm struggling for something new to look forward to. Except for the house, everything else I've got planned is expensive superficial and can wait: nose piercing, touching up my tattoo, getting a new tattoo, dying a streak of blue in my hair, etc. This is a perfect segue as to why I'm sad today. I had to retire my industrial piercing. The top most hole was made too close to the edge of my ear, so it felt as though it might rip. I've got loops in the holes now, but there's nothing I can do about that awkward one so I'll probably just let it close up. Maybe in the future I'll consider getting another one done

drunken haze, the moms, instagram, cancun, critique me, link attack, bragging rights, yay me for getting stuff done, location location location, photography, knitting, i'm broke, portraits, vacations, yoga, tattoos, artsy fartsy me
