"42" - by Ivy Elizabeth Mars

Sometimes there is a sparkle in your eyes that reminds me of the stars.
An endless light that reaches from your soul to mine.
This profound understanding from another human being.
It's like a part of the universe reserved just for me.
And on the days that are darkest, those hours that are longest,
That sparkle is what sets me free. It ignites a fire within me.
It reminds me of the good that was, is, and is yet to be.
Like a sailor lost in the night, on a black raging sea,
The stars in your eyes are what guide me home.
Providing safe passage through the chaos of my mind,
And giving me much needed respite from the storm.
The sparkle in your eyes gives me light that I can stand in, a sun that doesn't burn.
Yet given the choice, I would stand in the dark, devoid of light and sun.
You see, the darkness is where the sparkle lies and the stars are where you are.
Your eyes provide my universe and its guiding star.
So if ever you were to ask me why I love the dark,
I will simply smile and say, "Because I can see the stars."
