I can't eat.

I'm always cold. Blankets and turning the heat up don't help; I shiver constantly. I am well aware of why this is; it's because I'm consuming about 400 calories a day, and that isn't enough to maintain a decent core temperature. I can't eat. I've been sitting here munching oyster crackers in desperation, because they are the only thing I've been ( Read more... )

If the milk works, you might try one of those Ensure supplements or something like that. And fruit juices have a reasonable amount of calories, if you can get that down.

Also, it might be worth trying warming the milk or other liquid in the microwave. When my throat is tight (which can totally happen to me when I get upset--it can tighten to the point where I can barely breathe, though that doesn't happen often) warmth sometimes feels good and helps me relax again.

When I was trying to get enough calories on "clear liquids" (a matter of a few hours the night before surgery) I went for the maple syrup. (I enjoyed it; normally it's a treat, doled out sparingly, so eating it off the spoon had a delicious feeling of self-indulgence to it that kind of overcame the Lenten feeling of not being allowed to eat real food.) So maybe that, or honey? It wouldn't be good long-term, of course, but it would get quick-acting calories in you.

*hugs* I'm so sorry you're feeling bad. Yes, it's very important to make sure G. and J. have good food, even if you can't eat. I know you won't let them down.

Glad someone else mentioned Ensure. Try to force down a whole serving over the course of the day. Think of it as medicine and take it a spoonful or two every few hours.

Remember, if you become too weak, you cannot take care of the children or yourself. You are strong. You can do this.

*hug*
