Just to update...
After a few conversations with grandma today (she's been divorced from grandpa since dad was a kid), grandpa's lung cancer is at stage 4 (which is as bad as it gets). There's a 25% chance of survival and they're giving him 6-9 months, but who really knows. Even if they can get rid of the lung cancer with chemo (which he starts Monday, not today like we thought), there's cancer in his bone marrow on his spine and it could constrict, causing paralysis.
Grandpa only found this out because his chest was feeling tight, and after dealing with it for a little bit, he decided to get it checked out.
It seems the only time I go to California is for a funeral.
