Friday was a bit awkward. We had a dinner to go to for one of Kris' co-workers. We sat at a table with a couple other co-workers. The guy sitting next to me turns to me and says "So, do you wear costumes and go to Ren Faires and stuff?" out of the blue. Akward. UGH. I just never know what to admit to. It's not so bad when I've known the person for a little bit or when it comes up more naturally in a conversation... but... yea... yikes.
Saturday was low-key. I worked on finishing touches for my Steampunk costume and Eric came by to hang out for a bit. Kris was still feeling yucky, so he didn't feel up to going to the Nebraskon.
Sunday, I got up early and Lydia and I went to Nebraskon. The con wasn't bad. I was a little disappointed with the panels we sat down in. Honestly, I have enough knowledge that I could have taught both panels better. The first one we sat in was 'making & planning costumes' I figured with a name like that, it'd be more focused on how to decide on a costume and giving out plenty of research for how to decide on materials, designing patterns... etc. I was really hoping that if I picked up one bit of advice, it'd be worth sitting in on them. Instead... he sort of walked through how to make a costume from a picture one of the members of the audience brought. I kind or worried when he mentioned that if you couldn't afford interfacing, to use card stock for holding up a collar. Ouch. Never washing that article of clothing... and you better hope you don't sweat or it rains.
The other panel we sat in on was prop making. I missed the little bit about fiberglass (which isn't an option when living in an apartment) and he talked about metal and wood props. It seemed like he just didn't have much to share, had no examples to show... and missed some really good materials to talk about (like wonderflex, sintra, craft foam and some of the other materials that are becoming fairly common for crafting with).
I forgot my camera, so no pictures (my camera had been freaking out anyway). I was fairly happy with my costume, but it needs a lot more accessories. I got a few compliments on my costume and my picture taken with a Loli who asked me if I was a Loli. (I did sort of explain what I was... but I think she figured it was close enough to Loli to have my picture taken with her.)
We chatted it up with Sarah's sister Katie. It was very fun talking with her and we both definitely decided Otakon needs to happen again this year. I didn't see any costumes that really wowed me... but it was a Sunday at a little convention, so I'm not surprised. I picked up a really cute pirate hat and Shana figure, that's about it, really.
Today is the first day with Trish complete gone. Good thing the holidays are near, so it won't be too busy while I'm still trying to get a system down.
