Can I get a piece of the action?
Of course you can, and lucky you! Before we can formally begin, PO:ST-IT is recruiting six very important people (we call them the Six Elements) to form the remainder of the Organising Committee.
An Element is:
- the head of a committee
- in charge of delegating and following up on tasks to members
- able to ensure all requirements within the committee's job scope are met by respective deadlines
- the representative who liaises with other committee heads
- in charge of direct liaison with Directors
- involved in decision-making with Directors and other Elements
- more committed to PO:ST-IT than a volunteer member
- likely to remain in the team for the full span of PO:ST-IT (3-year commitment)
The Six Elements we need are:
1) Administration
The Administration Element is in charge of drafting all letters PO:ST-IT will need to send out - to contacts in the country of choice, schools the project will potentially be attached to, etc. This Element is also in charge of collecting and collating the contact database, releasing official statements, taking attendance as well as minutes during meetings, and basically everything secretariat related.
-This job is for you if you: are neat and tidy OR have a flair for phrasing things in formal language OR are secretly obssessive compulsive.
2) Logistics
The Logistics Element handles the printing of promotional material as well as the accumulation of educational resumes. A large part of this Element’s task arises in relation to the Site Visit - picking lodging and teaching sites, finding meeting locations, coordinating transport, handling food arrangements, and not to forget stocktaking and packing.
-This job is for you if you: are highly resourceful OR keep a handy list of everything you own OR possess premonition powers.
3) Manpower
The Manpower Element’s job is to recruit new members and oversee their welfare. This Element also has to lead the search for donors and sponsors ensure the commitment of all volunteers, prepare the delegation and coordination of work, and plan team-building activities as well as the coordination of classes.
-This job is for you if you: are sociable and friendly OR in possession of an extensive social network OR are constantly lurking on Facebook.
4) Curriculum
The Curriculum Element does a large amount of brain work - research on relevant material such as the country, its culture, the education level of potential students, their linguistic capabilities, etc. This Element needs to arrange courses for PO:ST-IT volunteers, for example language and the teaching of English as a second language. This job also entails the scheduling of classes during the site visit, coming up with a syllabus and the coordination of lesson plans.
-This job is for you if you: are intelligent OR have secretly been inspired by the many labours of your teachers OR just can’t get off Wikipedia.
5) Budget
The Budget Element basically plans the budget. It isn’t as simple as it sounds - this means the identification of potential sponsors, the collection of funds from donors and fundraising, the allocation of money to various aspects of the project, the calculation of approximate costs to be incurred, and the sending of money, whether through the bank or through personal means.
-This job is for you if you: are money-faced OR thirst to handle a sum bigger than your weekly allowance OR dream of single-handedly taking on Wall Street.
6) Execution
The Execution Element projects and maintains the corporate image of this initiative. This Element takes charge of the on-site programme, handles public relation and liaison, and ensures the meeting of deadlines - tougher than the short write-up appears to imply.
-This job is for you if you: manage to be everywhere at once OR have read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People OR dream of being omniscient.
So how do I apply?
You can download a copy of the application form
here.
The closing date for application is Thursday, 25th October 2007. Please place a hard copy of your application form in the 411 class tray, and send us a soft copy at sgpost.it@gmail.com, just in case.
I don’t think I’d be able to commit that much. Can I still help out?
NO. GO AWAY.
Just kidding. Of course you can! We’d never turn away a willing volunteer. If you don’t think you can take on the task of an Element, but would like to take part in PO:ST-IT anyway, whether during the site visit or during the long-distance correspondence, feel free to drop us an email at sgpost.it@gmail.com.
Please take note that we are currently more preoccupied with recruiting the Six Elements, so there's no hurry.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR APPLICATIONS!
