Fem Theory Monday?

Go look here, at feministing, then come back.

Okay, back?

What Ann said.  NOW NY does not speak for me, or for all feminists.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Look, I will be the first person defending Hillary Clinton from sexist and patriarchy-affirming attacks having nothing to do with her actual, you know, merit as a candidate.  And I'm not blind to the actual/perceived benefits to the feminist movement a female president would create, either.  Hello?  Radical feminist, here.

However, Hillary is not my candidate.  Teddy boy and I are on the same page, here, at least right now.  Does that mean, since I'm endorsing Obama, that I've betrayed all women, everywhere, and feminism in some purer form?  Is NOW-NY allowed to question Ted's feminist cred because he's a man?  Because if they're only beef is his endorsement of Obama, as the press release indicates, well, fuck that.  Obama's my candidate too.

I don't think Hillary Clinton would make a terrible president.  But I think she's a moderate perceived as ultra-liberal, as opposed to Obama, who I believe is a lot more progressive than he's perceived to be.  I don't think that Hillary's ovaries guarantee that she's the best candidate to protect me from infringement on my reproductive rights, either.  She was a Republican before she was with Bill, folks.

Did I betray feminism by not supporting Ms. Dole?  Do I betray feminism when I say that Condaleeza Rice has GOT TO GO?  I don't think Hillary's an enemy of feminism.  I don't think that it's an unfeminist or even necessarily improper choice to support a female democrat for feminist reasons.  And it would be one thing if NOW-NY was merely endorsing Hillary, or merely releasing a statement saying they think Ted got it wrong.  But a betrayal of feminism?  Then I guess I am too, folks.  Thanks awfully for your quick action in attempting to revoke my feminism card.  Nice try.
