what a wonderful weekend.
On Friday I drove to Winston-Salem and talked about my experiences in SE Asia to Bryan's afternoon class. I think that Megan, Nisha and I put them to sleep. I almost passed out when Mary Small popped in during her lunch break; I admire that lady something fierce. Afterwards Bryan took us out for lunch. Nisha and I had unsuccessfully attempted to procure some cake at the infamous Ratfactory earlier. The ENORMOUS hunk of strawberry cake we had at lunch more than made up for it.
I spent the night in Winston with Tasios (in his airy mansion). I got lost on the way there and ended up in the country (for the second time that day). I drove down the most beautiful road I've ever driven down in all of my driving days. Big hundred year old oaks lined the two lane road for a mile. Beyond the oaks were expansive fields of what looked like tobacco and corn. Everything in that place was so green and overgrown. I could see myself living there. Tasios' house was bangin'. I got lost trying to find his room in the morning and embarrassed myself in front of his mother. Ah, Greeks. I need to see Cyprus. I'm on a Greek novel kick at the moment.
Ah yes, before I left in the morning Tasios picked some wild figs off of the trees in his backyard. I've never eaten fresh figs before. They made me happy. Happy in a little girl with her mouth overwhelmed by juicy, cheap popsicles kinda way.
I think that some kid I went to high school has a thing for me. He invited me to his brother's 21st birthday cook out tonight. I am a' going. :)
