[I posted this earlier, but I think I screwed up on the privacy settings as usual]

Just got back from my convention in Dallas, TX. Had my phone interview with Chapel Hill while I was there, and just found out that I am now on their short short list and am asked to drive up for a face-to-face interview on Friday. I half hoped not to get this far in the process so that I wouldn't be faced with the prospect of leaving my current situation, which has so far been very good to me.

And for another ethical dilemma:

During my visit in TX, I learned that the University of South Carolina Press is interested in my book, which I just signed over to Kendall/Hunt. USC is a much better press, or at least has a much more scholarly reputation to it. The series editor for USC is one of my old PHD committee members and knows me well. The Press says that "it is indeed interested in publishing" my book, but sent all the materials to the series editor who then makes the final decision. I won't know that decision until Mid-May. If they want it, I should go with them, but I would then be breaking my contract with Kendall/Hunt. Ouch! They haven't put much time or money into it yet, so I'm hoping they will release me from my contact easily, but who knows. Worse case scenario: I go with Kendall/Hunt, which has been very accommodating. Advice?
