Tom Waits - Glitter and Doom

Jul 27, 2008 23:45

El & I just got back from seeing the mighty Tom!

He was magnificent! He can still bellow out a tune like a man possessed, then croon out a delicate ballad, and also found time to do an imprersonation of a horny spider and tell us that it's illegal to get a fish drunk in Los Angeles. He's groovy and funky and shakes a mean pair of maracas. The man is 58, but he's still a force to be reckoned with.

Not only that, but his band were exceptional too. Particularly his sax man and his keyboard player, who both did some blistering solos.

He played a two hour set, then came back and did a couple of tracks as an encore. The numbers were a nice blend of old favourites and newer tracks. I was very happy that he did Rain Dogs, Down in the Hole, Cold Cold Ground, Innocent When You Dream and Invitation to the Blues, those are some of my faves.

Sublime! :)
