Finished it. Went back and read all the other flist comments from those who finished it and am pretty much in agreement with folks. Spoilers ahoy.

I have to try the dwarf commoner origin. My husband played that one and he really liked it. I've only played human mage and human noble so far, but I want to play through the other beginnings.
The mage origin is kinda lame and boring, at least in comparison to the human noble one (and from what I've heard, the others too). I mean, am I supposed to give a shit about that idiot Jowan? It's a shame because mages are a ton of fun to play and kick so much ass that it's not even funny.
I could almost buy the lulzy Alistair is a virgin thing. For awhile, I just assumed it was because he had a hard time as a royal bastard, and didn't want to create more royal bastards. But when you find out that it's really, really difficult for grey wardens to have kids and combine that with the fact that he'll sleep with Morrigan and make a bastard for the ritual that excuse doesn't seem to work. I have to give it to bioware though. You get your virgin guy - but only get to keep him if you let him sleep with Morrigan. The fangirl crying about that cracks me up every damn time.
I'm just saddened that I can't find any fic that offers up the future adventures of Sten and dog.
Heh, you're going to have a hell of a time finding stories that aren't Cousland/Alistair fluffy true love romances, because that's the vast majority of stuff out there right now. Although it seems to be getting incrementally better as more people play the game.
I bought virgin Alistair. He says he was a kid when they dumped him at the monastery and then he was there until six months before the game. Since then he's been chilling with the Grey Wardens and he even says they aren't really many women among them.
What I don't but is that he's been saving himself for one tru wuv. First off, the monastery and all was against his will. Secondly, I laughed (really, really hard) at how quickly he jumps in the sack with you.
I've found a few interesting stories, but there are way too many trying to "correct" Alistair dumping you after being made king. That was the first time I respected the guy, honestly, lol.
There's some good stuff out there, but boy do you have to dig for it. And I keep running into stuff that just totally irritates me. Like there's this one Arl Eamon fic where Eamon pushes Alistair into dumping the PC for duty. It's like, goddamn, this is one of the few choices that Alistair makes himself (and a really interesting and smart one) and the fangirls have to push the decision onto someone else.
The Morrigan/Alistair thing reads like rape/abuse to me. Dood hates the CRAP out of her, but he's manipulated/begged/ordered to get with the nasty to save his own life or the live of the woman he loves...(I say this with the assumption that *most* male PCs will do the deed themselves). If the genders were reversed, and a male talked a female into sleeping with the evil mage...
From the moment they started bantering, it seemed pretty obvious at least to me that Alistair wanted to get into her pants. He may hate her guts, but he's also a guy and she's hot. If you play a male character, you can even give Alistair shit about secretly liking her and thinking she's hot. Personally, I think he'd enjoy the hell out of having sex with her (even if he's in a relationship with the PC), and then feel super guilty about it in the morning. But then, I'm going under the assumption that he's wanted her from the very beginning.
I do see what you're saying though. What I find interesting is that if it is a case of rape/abuse and forcing/manipulating/begging someone into having sex when they don't want to, then the abuser really isn't Morrigan so much as it's the fem Grey Warden since she's the one who talks Alistair into doing what he doesn't want to do. I haven't seen very many stories that deal with the fallout of this (which is unfortunate, because I think that would be awesome).
Really, my biggest problem with Morrigan's deal isn't the sex, it's that who the hell in their right mind would take it if they care about the future of Ferelden (especially people who are supposed to be Grey Wardens and care about duty)? I guess I could buy it if say, they did it out of revenge or fear or or were drunk or whatever (hell I wrote a fic about that). But really, letting Morrigan have a god baby is the worst plan ever. You just know that's going to bite you in the ass in the long run.
"...the abuser really isn't Morrigan so much as it's the fem Grey Warden since she's the one who talks Alistair into doing what he doesn't want to do."
This. Absolutely this.
..and the godbaby thing...exactly. My first playthrough PC was all about Grey Wardens and duty...ending the blight. Godbaby? Bad idea... But there was a *delightful* dramatic arc around Alistair dumping her elven ass (ITA about it being the first real 'kingly' act)and her deciding to be all self-sacrificing, so easily rejecting the godbaby, and then HIM sacrificing himself. (There's a fic in my head about that particular mage GreyWardenPants making a very unfortunate deal with a desire demon post-OC...)
There's also some interesting arc-i-ness Origin-wise about the idea that she (a sheltered mage) and him (a sheltered Chantry boy)were both really unprepared for the duty that ended up on their shoulders. In that scenario, I see the whole game as blind-leading-the-blind. A Cousland plays out MUCH more politically to me,(Absolutely no conflict with Anora at all), while either of the elven origins or the dwarven commoner actually make me believe that the PC has the goods to take leadership against darkspawn.
Yeah, the godbaby thing makes me shudder. Of course, Morrigan has no way of knowing whether or not this will work, she's just going by what Flemeth told her.
I mean, if Flemeth really does have the capability to steal Morrigan's body as her own to preserve her youth, why didn't she do just that and then have the baby herself? Or maybe that's how she got Morrigan in the first place? Morrigan, the darkspawn godbaby.
Or, you know, Flemeth is just screwing with her because she found out about Morrigan's plan to off her. Somewhere in the Kocari Wilds, Flemeth is laughing her ass off over the fact that Morrigan's just popped out Alistair's perfectly human baby.
Ooooh sounds interesting. Have you written some of this already, because I totally want to read it if you have. I think the idea of the blind leading the blind is really awesome and could lead to some seriously excellent disasters.
